# Schema Markup Validator review (2026): is it any good?

> Free schema.org checker for any structured data on a page or snippet

Checked Oct 23, 2026 · graded Oct 23, 2026 by ToolGPA.

The Schema Markup Validator is a free tool from the schema.org project that checks the structured data embedded in a web page, or in a pasted code snippet, against the schema.org vocabulary. It replaced Google's old Structured Data Testing Tool, which moved to the schema.org community by April 2021, and it validates all schema.org types without checking for Google's rich results.

## Key features

- **Fetch a URL:** Enter a page address and the validator fetches the page and checks the structured data embedded in it.
- **Test a code snippet:** Paste markup into the editor to check it before it is published, and rerun the test after each change.
- **Any schema.org type:** Checks syntax and compliance with schema.org standards for every type in the vocabulary, not only the ones Google uses for rich results.
- **No Google-specific warnings:** Google describes it as validating schema.org data without Google feature-specific warnings, which its Rich Results Test covers instead.
- **Interface in many languages:** The validator's interface can be switched between dozens of languages, including Japanese, German, Hindi, Arabic and Spanish.

## Good for

- Developers checking that schema.org markup is well formed
- Sites using structured data for engines and apps other than Google
- Anyone who used Google's retired Structured Data Testing Tool

## Worth knowing

- Does not tell you whether a page qualifies for Google rich results; Google's Rich Results Test does that.
- Tests one URL or one snippet per run; the page offers no site crawl, scheduling or saved history.
- Hosted by the schema.org project, a community effort founded by Google, Microsoft, Yahoo and Yandex, not a company selling support.

## ToolGPA grades

**GPA: 2.8 out of 4**, graded Oct 23, 2026. The Schema Markup Validator checks the structured data on a page or in a pasted snippet against every schema.org type, for free and with no account. But it won't tell you whether a page qualifies for Google rich results, it tests one URL or snippet per run with no crawl or saved history, and a community project runs it, not a company offering support.

- **Free plan and trial: A.** Open to anyone in a browser with no account and no limits on record.
- **Features: D.** One narrow job: checking syntax and schema.org compliance for any type, from a URL or a snippet. No rich result checks, no site crawl, no scheduling and no saved history.
- **Ease of use: B.** No rating on record, and nothing to set up: enter a URL or paste code and run the test. The interface switches between dozens of languages.
- **Platforms and integrations: C.** Web only, with no API or integrations on record.

## Keep it, or make your own?

**Keep it.** Schema Markup Validator is free, so making your own would save you nothing. It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 2.8 is higher than 64 of the 83 other technical SEO tools we grade.

- You could make: Schema markup: an app builder makes this well.
- You could not: A crawler that checks every page of a site.

A judgement by ToolGPA from this listing, by rules that are the same for every tool. Nothing was built to test it.
