The first two are close. Microsoft PowerPoint comes first: it is free in a browser, adds Windows and Mac apps for people who pay, and most other tools here import or export its files. Google Slides is second: its whole editor is free with a Google Account, but it lists no desktop app. Canva is third for people who would rather start from a template. Keynote narrowly missed: it is free, but its apps are for Apple devices only. Zoho Show is free for individuals too, but teams get it only with a wider Zoho subscription. Gamma drafts a deck from a prompt, but its free AI credits do not refresh.

Pour : Most people
PowerPoint runs on the web, Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android. Its free plan covers one person on the web, iPhone and Android, with sharing, real-time collaboration, basic templates and 5 GB of cloud storage, and Designer's layout suggestions are open to everyone on the web. Speaker Coach listens to a rehearsal and reports on pacing and filler words, in English only. Its iPhone and iPad app averages 4.7 from about 582,000 ratings. Know the limits: the Windows and Mac apps need Microsoft 365, from $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year for Personal, or the one-time Office Home 2024 purchase at $179.99 for 1 PC or Mac. Macros do not run in the web version, and Copilot needs a paid subscription.

Pour : Anyone who wants to pay nothing and edit decks together
Google Slides is free with a personal Google Account: several people can work on the same slide at once, with comments, and revision history restores earlier versions. It runs in a browser and on iPhone and Android, edits PowerPoint files directly, and its iPhone and iPad app averages 4.7 from about 413,000 ratings. It is second because it runs in fewer places than PowerPoint: no Windows or Mac desktop app is listed, and offline editing on a computer needs Chrome or Edge with an extension. Slides recording and speaker spotlight are limited to some Workspace plans, and the business version comes only with Google Workspace, from $7 per user a month on a 1-year commitment.

Pour : People without design training who start from a template
Canva builds slides from templates, with presenter notes that track speaking time for each slide, and several people can edit a deck at once. The free account includes templates, photo and video editing, real-time collaboration and 5 GB of cloud storage, on the web, Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android. Its iPhone and iPad app averages 4.9 from about 3.6 million ratings. It is third because it is a design platform first, used for social media graphics, video and print as well as slides, where Google Slides is built for presentations and edits PowerPoint files directly. Canva Pro is listed at $14.99 to $18.00 a month on the US App Store, and prices on Canva's own site may differ.

Garder ou faire
A slide deck at its plainest is pages of text and pictures. The editor is the product: layout that holds, presenter view, and files that open in PowerPoint.
