Terms of service

ToolGPA is a free directory of software. For each tool it lists what it costs, what it does and where it runs, gives it grades, and compares it with others. It is information to help you choose, not professional, financial or legal advice, and the choice of what to buy is yours.

Prices, plans and features are read from each vendor’s own pages and dated, and each tool lists the pages they were read from. Vendors change them often, sometimes without notice, so a figure here can be out of date or wrong. Always check the vendor’s own site before you pay.

If you find a mistake, please tell us. We check it against the vendor’s page and correct it.

Grades, reviews, verdicts, rankings and the keep-or-make calls are ToolGPA’s own judgement, given under the rules on the grades page. Unless a review says otherwise, they rest on what is public about a product, not on our using it. Ratings from app stores are the stores’ own and are shown with their source.

The site links to vendors and to the pages its facts come from. We do not run those sites and are not responsible for what is on them or for anything you buy there.

ToolGPA uses affiliate links: some links to vendors’ websites are partner links, and if you buy through one we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. ToolGPA also works with sponsors, who may pay for labelled space on the site or in what we publish.

Paid links and sponsored space are labelled where they appear. Neither buys or changes a grade, a review, a verdict or a place in a ranking. The page on how we make money explains both in full.

The writing, grades, charts, data and design on ToolGPA are ours. You are welcome to:

• read and use the site for yourself or your work;
• link to any page;
• quote short passages, with ToolGPA named and a link to the page they come from;
• pass on an Insider’s Guide as it is, without changing it or removing our name;
• put a grade badge or an embeddable chart on your own site, in the form we offer it.

Anything beyond that needs our written permission first: copying pages or large parts of them, republishing our grades or data in bulk, or presenting our work as your own. The data files we publish for programs may be read freely; republishing them is covered by the same rule.

Search engines, AI assistants and other programs may read the site within the rules in its robots.txt. Please do not send requests fast enough to slow the site down for anyone else, or try to reach parts of it that are not meant to be public.

People who work for a listed company can sign in to claim its listing, as the page for vendors describes. If you do:

• sign in only with an address you are entitled to use, and keep the codes we send you to yourself;
• send corrections that are true, with the public page that states them;
• do not use the account to harm a rival or to mislead readers.

A claim or a correction may be refused, and an account closed, if these rules are broken. A vendor account never lets anyone edit a review or a grade. Paid plans are described on the vendors page; nothing is charged until you have agreed to it, and a paid plan comes with its own terms when you take it.

When you send a correction, a claim or a message, you let us use it to check and improve the site. Please send nothing unlawful, nothing that belongs to someone else without their permission, and no passwords or payment details. What we record about you is on the privacy page.

Product names, logos and pictures belong to the companies that own them. They are used here to identify the products, and their being here does not mean a company endorses ToolGPA or that we endorse it. The ToolGPA name and logo are ours.

The site is provided as it is, without any promise that it is complete, correct, up to date or always available. As far as the law allows, ToolGPA is not liable for any loss that comes from using the site or relying on what it says, including money spent on a product it lists. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have by law that cannot be taken away.

We may change the site, and these terms, at any time. When the terms change, the date at the top changes too, and using the site after that means you accept the new version.
