Free guide to event ticketing platforms

Our top three event ticketing platforms

The first two share a grade and the call is close. Ticket Tailor comes first on cost: a flat $0.85 a ticket, paid by you unless you pass it to buyers, against Eventbrite's 3.7% + $1.79 plus processing, which buyers pay by default. Eventbrite is second for its marketplace and payouts before the event. Zeffy is third for nonprofits, which pay nothing. Luma grades higher but keeps 5% of paid tickets from your sales, with no way to pass it to buyers. Humanitix narrowly missed: buyers pay 5% + $1.29 a ticket by default, and payouts normally come after the event.

  1. First: Ticket Tailor

    Free

For: Most people selling tickets to small and mid-sized events

Ticket Tailor sells tickets to one-off, recurring and seated events with no subscription and no cut of the price. You pay a flat $0.85 a paid ticket plus VAT, or from $0.30 with prepaid credits, and can pass it to buyers as a booking fee: $170 on 200 tickets at $20. Free events cost nothing up to 5,000 tickets a year, money lands in your own Stripe, PayPal or Square account as you sell, and the iPhone and Android check-in app works offline and takes Tap to Pay at the door. Know the limits: that account's card fees come out of your sales on top (2.9% + $0.30 with Stripe in the US), each reserved seat uses an extra credit, and removing its branding costs $49 a month.

  2. Second: Eventbrite

    Free plan · from $15/mo

For: Organizers who want buyers to find them and to pay the fees

Eventbrite lists your event on its own marketplace, where buyers browse local events, with reserved seating, timed entry, email campaigns, social ad tools and payouts before the event. Publishing is free and free events carry no fees. On paid tickets buyers pay by default: 3.7% + $1.79 a ticket plus 2.9% processing per order, or $506 on 200 tickets at $20 before processing. Its Organizer app for iPhone and iPad averages 4.8 from about 32,600 ratings. It is second because its fee is about three times Ticket Tailor's, whoever pays it; its pricing plans cover only the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK and Ireland, and more than 250 marketing emails a day needs Pro from $15 a month.

  3. Third: Zeffy

    Free

For: Nonprofits that want to keep the whole ticket price

Zeffy sells tickets for nonprofits and takes nothing from them, not even card fees: 200 tickets at $20 pays out the full $4,000, in a weekly payout. Buyers are asked at checkout for an optional tip to Zeffy and can set it to zero. Ticket forms have group and members-only rates, add-ons and tax receipts, volunteers check people in from the app or a shared web page, and Tap to Pay takes card sales at the door, with donations, raffles and auctions alongside. It is third because only nonprofits can use it, and only in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland and Australia, with no seating charts or app integrations on record.

How does ToolGPA rank event ticketing platforms?

From what each tool's own pages show (price, free plan, platforms, features and limits) and from what people say about it in public reviews and discussions. Not from our own testing. First place goes to the tool that suits the most people, and second and third to the best choices for the readers it leaves out.
