Our top three therapy and clinic software

The first two are close. SimplePractice comes first because it is built around the US therapist who bills insurance, and its app averages 4.7 from about 34,000 ratings, where Carepatron has none on record. Carepatron costs less: a free plan, then $31 a user with the reminders SimplePractice holds back until $79. Zanda is third for clinics with several practitioners, but it runs only in the browser. Cliniko narrowly missed: $95 covers up to 5 practitioners, but it files no insurance claims itself and has no phone app.

  1. First: SimplePractice

    Free trial · from $49/mo

For: Most therapists in private practice

SimplePractice puts scheduling, a client portal with paperless intake, progress notes, telehealth, insurance claims and card payments in one account, from $49 a month on Starter after a 30-day trial with no card. It runs on the web, with a clinician app for iPhone, iPad and Android, and its App Store app averages 4.7 from about 34,000 ratings. Know the limits: reminders, calendar sync and secure messaging start on Essential at $79, claims cost 39¢ each and cards 3.15% + 30¢, AI notes are add-ons from $35 a month, and groups of six or more clinicians are priced by sales.

Plus is $31 a user a month billed yearly ($39 monthly) and adds reminders, calendar sync, unlimited appointments and insurance claims from 25¢ each. It runs on the web, iPhone and Android. It is second because it has no App Store rating on record, the free plan stops at 100 appointments and 1 GB of storage with no reminders or calendar sync, every practitioner is a paid seat, and roles, white labeling and the API need Advanced at $39 a user.

It is third because there is no app for any device, only the browser, AI scribing stops at 4 sessions a month without AI Pro at $19 a user, texts need a $4.99 number plus 9¢ each past 35, and claims carry a $50 enrollment fee and 15¢ a claim.
