2Do
To-Do Lists
Task manager for Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android with no subscription
Task managers for getting things out of your head and done on time.
The first two are close. Todoist comes first because it reaches from one person to a shared team workspace, and its iPhone and iPad app has about 129,000 ratings, nearly three times as many as TickTick's. TickTick costs less and does more for one person. Microsoft To Do is third as the complete free option. If you use only Apple devices and would rather buy once than subscribe, look at Things 3, which is outside the three only because it runs nowhere else.
Free plan · from $5/mo
For: Most people
Todoist runs on the web, Mac, Windows, Linux, iPhone and Android, so one list follows you to every device. The free plan covers 5 personal projects with reminders, and paid plans start at $5 per user a month, billed yearly. It has shared projects and a team workspace for when a list stops being yours alone. Its iPhone and iPad app averages 4.8 from about 129,000 ratings. Know the limits: the free plan stops at 5 projects, and the calendar layout and custom reminders need a paid plan.
iPhone and iPad app: 4.8 out of 5 on the App Store
Todoist pricing and detailsFree plan · from $49.99/yr
For: One person who wants habits and a focus timer in the same app
TickTick runs on the same devices as Todoist and adds a habit tracker and a Pomodoro timer, which Todoist's listing does not have. Premium is $49.99 a year, less than Todoist's yearly price, and its iPhone and iPad app averages 4.9 from about 46,000 ratings. It is second because it is built around one person and shared lists, with no team workspace, and its pricing page shows Premium only as an annual plan. The free plan stops at 9 lists and 99 tasks per list.
iPhone and iPad app: 4.9 out of 5 on the App Store
TickTick pricing and detailsFree
For: Anyone who wants to pay nothing
The whole app is free, with no paid tier: lists, due dates, reminders, shared lists and file attachments up to 25 MB. It runs on the web, Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android, and its iPhone and iPad app averages 4.7 from about 268,000 ratings. It is third because it does less than the two above. There is no Linux app, you need a Microsoft account to sign in, and lists can be shared only between personal Microsoft accounts or within one workplace or school.
