Best for sorting tasks by urgent and important
Do you think in urgent versus important? 4.Do puts every task in one of the four Eisenhower boxes, and it can move tasks between boxes by itself as their due dates get close. It's free to download on Android, iPhone, iPad and Mac. The annoying part: nothing on its pages says what the free version leaves out, so you find out once you're in.
Who 4.Do is for
- Great if you already plan with the Eisenhower or Covey four quadrants
- Handy when you're on Android and want to add a task without opening the app
- Good for people with an Android phone and a Mac who want the same matrix on both
Who 4.Do is not for
- Skip it if you want to know what's free before you start, because the vendor doesn't say
- Not for you if you work on Windows or in a browser, as neither is listed
- Too light for teams, as it's a personal matrix with nothing listed for sharing or assigning tasks
Why 4.Do gets a 3.0
Five grades, each with its reason. The GPA is their average: an A is 4 points, an F is none.
- BValue for moneyPremium is $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year on the US App Store. The yearly price is on the cheap side for a to-do app. But its App Store page only says Premium gives "full access to all features", not which ones, so B it is.
- BFree plan and trialIt's free to download and use, with no trial clock. But 4.Do doesn't list which features the free version goes without, so we can't tell you where the wall is.
- BFeaturesFour quadrants you can rename and recolour, subtasks, repeats, reminders, tags, filters and attachments. Auto-Advance shifts a task as its date nears. Some bits are on one platform only, like the Quick Settings tile on Android and Siri on iPhone.
- BEase of useNo App Store rating is on record for it, so a B is as high as we go. The idea is simple enough: four boxes, drag a task into one. On Android you can add tasks straight from the notification shade.
- BPlatforms and integrationsAndroid, iPhone, iPad and Mac, synced through 4.Do Cloud. That's a decent spread. But there's no Windows or web version, and Siri is the only integration listed.

Key features
- Four-quadrant matrix
- Tasks are grouped by urgency and importance, with an overview of all four quadrants or a focused view of one. Quadrants can be renamed and given custom colors.
- Auto-advance and drag and drop
- Auto-Advance adjusts a task's quadrant based on its due date, and drag and drop moves a task by hand when its priority changes.
- Subtasks, repeats and attachments
- Large tasks break into subtasks, tasks repeat at custom intervals with reminders, and images or files can be attached for reference.
- Sorting, filters and tags
- Tasks sort by due date, creation date or manual order, and filters and tags separate work, home and personal tasks. The view can switch between all tasks and a filter by status.
- Quick capture
- On Android, tasks are added from a persistent notification or a Quick Settings tile. On Apple devices, Siri, Spotlight, voice input and a photo scan add tasks.
