Tebra review (2026): is it worth it?
EHR, medical billing and patient marketing for independent practices

Tebra report card
Fair · out of 4.0 · graded Oct 24, 2026
Best for insurance-billing practices that also want marketing
Tebra pairs an EHR with AI notes, e-prescribing, insurance billing, telehealth and practice marketing such as a website and review replies. You can't see a price without booking a demo, there's no free trial, and the app is iPhone and iPad only, so a solo therapist comparing prices has nothing to compare.
Who Tebra is for
- Fits if you run an independent medical or mental health practice that bills insurance
- Works for practices that want their website, listings and review replies next to the EHR
Who Tebra is not for
- Skip it if you want a price before talking to sales, as every package is quoted after a demo
- Not for you if you want to try it first, as there's no free plan or trial on record
- Watch out: controlled-substance prescribing adds about $75 a provider, and PDMP checks $500 a facility plus about $50 a user a year
- Skip it if your team uses Android phones, as the app is listed for iPhone and iPad only
- Watch out: pricing is per clinical provider, with lower tiers only for providers billing 100 claims or fewer a month
Why Tebra gets a 2.0
Five grades, each with its reason. The GPA is their average: an A is 4 points, an F is none.
- CValue for moneyNo price is published. Every package, from EHR Starter to All in One, is quoted only after a demo with sales, so you can't set it against this category's $39 middle until you've had the call.
- FFree plan and trialNo free plan and no trial on record. The way in is a sales demo and a quote.
- BFeaturesCharting with AI notes, e-prescribing with controlled-substance and PDMP checks, labs, eligibility checks, claims with denial handling, scheduling, intake, a patient portal and telehealth, plus a website, listings and review replies. No gap in the job.
- CEase of useNo App Store rating on record. Packages are put together with sales, and controlled-substance prescribing needs identity proofing and PDMP setup.
- BPlatforms and integrationsWeb plus an iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch app for the schedule, records, notes, prescribing and labs. No Android app is named, no desktop app, and the listing names no integrations.

Keep Tebra, or make your own?
Keep it
To replace Tebra you would be making insurance claims sent to payers through a clearinghouse. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 11 of the 12 other therapy and clinic software grade higher.
What you could make
- Clinical notes, appointment booking and review collection: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- Insurance claims sent to payers through a clearinghouse.
- Video sessions that meet health privacy rules.
- A real app for iOS. Something home-made would be a web page.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
- Hooks into the device itself: an Apple Watch app.
- What a company asks for before it lets staff use something: HIPAA.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. Tebra’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
