Which one is for you
Pick Tebra if
- Fits if you run an independent medical or mental health practice that bills insurance
- Works for practices that want their website, listings and review replies next to the EHR
Look elsewhere if
- Skip it if you want a price before talking to sales, as every package is quoted after a demo
- Not for you if you want to try it first, as there's no free plan or trial on record
- Watch out: controlled-substance prescribing adds about $75 a provider, and PDMP checks $500 a facility plus about $50 a user a year
- Skip it if your team uses Android phones, as the app is listed for iPhone and iPad only
- Watch out: pricing is per clinical provider, with lower tiers only for providers billing 100 claims or fewer a month
Pick TheraNest if
- Fits if you're an insurance-based therapist who wants claims bundled into the plan
- Works for therapists who need help getting in-network, with one or two payer enrollments included
Look elsewhere if
- Tight if you stay on Essentials: online booking, secure messaging, custom forms and bundled claims start on Advanced
- Watch out: Advanced covers 50 claims, checks and reminders a month, then 23¢ a claim, 25¢ a check and 10¢ a reminder
- Pricey if you add the Session Assistant at $35 a month, eRx at $45 plus $135 setup, or Wiley below Premier at $25
- Watch out: each therapist pays a $19.50 yearly CPT fee, cards cost 2.99% + 30¢, and Premier's unlimited has a fair usage policy
- Skip it if you might downgrade soon, as the change only takes effect when your contract ends

How this page was made
- The verdict at the top follows a fixed rule. When both tools are in the same category and either is in our top three for it, the verdict follows that ranking: the higher-placed tool is our pick. The top three weigh who each tool suits as well as its grades, so a pick can go against the GPA. Otherwise the page does not pick one and says which grades higher: the higher GPA first; on a tie, the one with a free plan, then the one that starts cheaper in dollars a month, counted the same way for both; if they are still level, what the choice depends on.
- The grades are our own, from each tool’s review or report card. The GPA is their average.
- Prices, plans and platforms come from each tool’s listing. The table above says where each price was read and when.
- The differences and the answers to the questions are worked out from those listings.
