Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.0
GPA, above 1 of the 12 other therapy and clinic software we grade
Tebra is a cloud platform for independent medical and mental health practices in the US, formed from the merger that brought Kareo into it. It combines an EHR with AI note-writing, e-prescribing and labs, insurance billing and claims, online scheduling and intake, telehealth, and practice marketing such as websites and review management. Packages are quoted after a demo.
To get you started, here are 7 things to know about Tebra, taken from its own pages and our grades.
Packages are put together with sales, and controlled-substance prescribing needs identity proofing and PDMP setup.
- 1
Best for insurance-billing practices that also want marketing
Tebra pairs an EHR with AI notes, e-prescribing, insurance billing, telehealth and practice marketing such as a website and review replies.
- 2
It runs on 2 platforms
Web and iOS.
- 3
Cloud EHR with AI Note Assist
Charting with flowsheets and templates, treatment plans, AI-generated clinical notes, e-prescribing with controlled-substance and PDMP checks, electronic labs and MIPS reporting.
- 4
Billing and claims
Real-time eligibility checks, charge capture, electronic claims with rejection and denial handling, automatic payment posting and insurance enrollment. Managed billing is also offered.
- 5
Patient scheduling and intake
Online scheduling, digital intake, custom appointment reminders, HIPAA-compliant two-way messaging and a patient portal.
- 6
A 2.0 GPA, above 1 of 12
That is against the other therapy and clinic software we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 7
Keep it
To replace Tebra you would be making insurance claims sent to payers through a clearinghouse. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card
Best for insurance-billing practices that also want marketing
Tebra pairs an EHR with AI notes, e-prescribing, insurance billing, telehealth and practice marketing such as a website and review replies. You can't see a price without booking a demo, there's no free trial, and the app is iPhone and iPad only, so a solo therapist comparing prices has nothing to compare.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | No price is published. Every package, from EHR Starter to All in One, is quoted only after a demo with sales, so you can't set it against this category's $39 middle until you've had the call. |
| Free plan and trial | F | No free plan and no trial on record. The way in is a sales demo and a quote. |
| Features | B | Charting with AI notes, e-prescribing with controlled-substance and PDMP checks, labs, eligibility checks, claims with denial handling, scheduling, intake, a patient portal and telehealth, plus a website, listings and review replies. No gap in the job. |
| Ease of use | C | No App Store rating on record. Packages are put together with sales, and controlled-substance prescribing needs identity proofing and PDMP setup. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web plus an iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch app for the schedule, records, notes, prescribing and labs. No Android app is named, no desktop app, and the listing names no integrations. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Tebra is for
- Fits if you run an independent medical or mental health practice that bills insurance
- Works for practices that want their website, listings and review replies next to the EHR
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you want a price before talking to sales, as every package is quoted after a demo
- Not for you if you want to try it first, as there's no free plan or trial on record
- Watch out: controlled-substance prescribing adds about $75 a provider, and PDMP checks $500 a facility plus about $50 a user a year
- Skip it if your team uses Android phones, as the app is listed for iPhone and iPad only
- Watch out: pricing is per clinical provider, with lower tiers only for providers billing 100 claims or fewer a month
Good to know
Good for
- Independent medical and mental health practices that bill insurance
- Practices that also want a website, listings and review management
- Clinics with many front-desk and billing staff, who are not charged
Worth knowing
- No subscription prices are published; every package (EHR Starter, Billing Starter, EHR+, Patient Experience + Marketing, All in One) is quoted after a demo.
- Controlled-substance prescribing adds about $75 per provider for EPCS setup, and PDMP checks cost $500 per facility plus about $50 per user a year.
- Pricing is per clinical provider; providers billing 100 claims or fewer a month can get lower-tier pricing.
- The mobile app is listed on the App Store for iPhone and iPad; the pages read mention no Android app.

Part 04 · Standing
Where it stands
Its grades against its category, and whether to keep it or make your own
1/12
Other therapy and clinic software it is graded above
Tebra's GPA of 2.0 is higher than 1 of the 12 other therapy and clinic software we grade.
It stands best on platforms and integrations (B, above 3 of 12) and worst on free plan and trial (F, above 0).

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Tebra you would be making insurance claims sent to payers through a clearinghouse. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 11 of the 12 other therapy and clinic software grade higher.
What you could make
- Clinical notes, appointment booking and review collection: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- Insurance claims sent to payers through a clearinghouse.
- Video sessions that meet health privacy rules.
- A real app for iOS. Something home-made would be a web page.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
- Hooks into the device itself: an Apple Watch app.
- What a company asks for before it lets staff use something: HIPAA.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. Tebra’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
