Who each one suits
DisplayFusion
- Windows users working across two or more monitors
- Ultrawide owners who want to split one screen into virtual monitors
- IT teams deploying one license key across a site with MSI and ADMX templates
Komorebi
- Windows users who want automatic tiling in the style of bspwm or yabai

- Personal use at no cost
Worth knowing
DisplayFusion
- Windows only: the current version needs Windows 11, Windows 10 (1607 or higher) or Windows Server 2016, 2019 or 2022.
- The Free version is licensed for personal use only; company use needs a Pro license.
- Multi-monitor taskbars, Monitor Profiles, monitor splitting, Triggers, monitor fading and Window Position Profiles are Pro features.
- The vendor notes that full-screen videos and games cannot currently be constrained to monitor splits.
Komorebi
- The license permits no commercial use: using it at work needs an Individual Commercial Use License, from $10 a month per person.
- It is not open source. The developer calls it educational source software, and the license forbids redistribution and hard forks.
- Setup is through configuration files and the command line, and key bindings need a separate tool such as whkd or AutoHotkey.
- Windows and Mac commercial licenses are bought separately unless you take the multi-platform one, and subscriptions are not refunded.
Key features
DisplayFusion
- Multi-monitor taskbars
- Pro adds a taskbar to every monitor, showing all windows or only those on that monitor, with button grouping, pinned items, a clock and system tray icons.
- Wallpaper per monitor
- Sets a different image on each monitor or spans one across several, from local files or online sources. Wallpaper Profiles and random image rotation need Pro.
- Monitor configuration and splitting
- Sets resolution, colour depth, refresh rate and orientation. Pro saves Monitor Profiles and splits a monitor into smaller virtual monitors, with padding for bezel compensation.
- Functions and TitleBar Buttons
- More than 30 pre-configured Functions move, size and span windows from key combinations or extra title bar buttons. Custom Functions and C# or VB.net scripted ones need Pro.
- Triggers
- Pro listens for events such as window creation, window focus, desktop unlock or system idle, then moves or resizes the window, shows a notification or runs a Function.
- Window profiles and remote control
- Pro saves and reloads window layouts as Window Position Profiles, and can be controlled from an iPhone, iPad or Android device to change wallpaper or toggle monitors.
Komorebi
- Automatic tiling layouts
- Arranges windows without overlap in layouts such as BSP, Vertical Stack, Horizontal Stack, Columns, Rows, Ultrawide Vertical Stack and Grid, chosen per workspace.
- Workspaces on every monitor
- Each monitor has its own set of virtual workspaces, and commands move or send windows between workspaces and between monitors.
- Window stacking
- Several windows can share one container as a stack and be cycled through, so a group of windows takes up a single tile in the layout.
- Command-line control
- The komorebic CLI sends every command to the window manager. Key bindings come from a separate hotkey daemon such as whkd or AutoHotkey.
- Status bar
- komorebi-bar is an included status bar tied to the window manager, and it can be customized with widgets and themes.
- JSON configuration and app rules
- Settings live in a komorebi.json file, with example configurations provided. A community-maintained list of rules covers applications that misbehave when tiled.
