Worth knowing

Flora

  • Statistics are not stored on Flora's servers, so they are lost if the app is reinstalled.
  • The Price and Care tree-planting services cost money, and their amounts are not published on the site; Google Play lists in-app items up to $134.99.
  • The homepage shows a Chrome Extension button, but it carries no link in the page source and no store listing could be confirmed.

Focus To-Do

  • The store listings do not say which features need Premium, so the limits of the free version could not be confirmed.

Key features

Flora

Focus trees
Pick a duration and press Start to grow a tree. Leaving the app for social media or games kills it, and finished sessions unlock new plants on the Grand Tour.
Group focus
Host or join a room with friends or by passcode. If everyone stays off their phone, each person wins an extra tree; if the host leaves, every tree in the room dies.
To-do list and goals
To-do items can carry reminders and a time goal. Tagging a tree with a to-do adds that session's time to the goal, which can reset daily, weekly or monthly.
Habit tracker and statistics
A to-do can track a streak of successive days with a tagged tree, and the app compiles daily, weekly, monthly and yearly focus statistics.
Real tree planting
The opt-in Price and Care services plant real trees through partners such as Trees for the Future. A Price is charged only if you kill a tree and confirm it.
Pause and allowed apps
A session can be paused to use another app unless a Price is set, and on iOS 16.1 or later chosen apps can stay available during focus.

Focus To-Do

Pomodoro timer
Pomodoro and break lengths are adjustable, with short and long breaks, pause and resume, a skip-break option, a continuous mode and a warning before a session ends.
Tasks and projects
Tasks take due dates, recurring schedules, reminders, subtasks, color-coded priorities, notes and an estimated number of pomodoros.
Reports
Statistics cover total focus time, completed to-dos and time per project, with trend charts, a Gantt chart of focus time and a calendar view.
Sync across devices
Lists and focus records sync between phone and computer; the listings name iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, Android and Windows.
White noise and alarms
A choice of white noise can play during a session, and an alarm or vibration marks the end of each pomodoro.
Forest and App Whitelist
The Android listing adds a Forest view, where focused time grows a plant, and an App Whitelist that limits which apps can be used while focusing.
