Who each one suits

Moom

  • Mac users who rearrange the same windows each time they dock a laptop
  • People who want both mouse-driven and keyboard-driven window control
  • Buyers who prefer a one-time license that covers all of their Macs

Swish

  • MacBook and Magic Trackpad users who prefer gestures to keyboard shortcuts
  • Multi-monitor setups where windows move between screens often
  • Buyers who want a low one-time price, or who already pay for Setapp

Worth knowing

Moom

  • macOS only; Moom 4.6 requires macOS 10.13 High Sierra or newer.
  • Moom 4 is sold only on the Many Tricks site. The Mac App Store carries Moom Classic, the older Moom 3, at $6.99.
  • A license includes at least one year of updates. Later updates may be paid, though the purchased version keeps working.
  • There is no direct Shortcuts support; the FAQ says some features can be reached through AppleScript.

Swish

  • macOS only, version 12 and above. It is not on the Mac App Store because it cannot run sandboxed.
  • It is designed mainly for the Magic Trackpad; a third-party mouse needs a separate app such as Mac Mouse Fix to emulate touch gestures.
  • A license can be active on two Macs at a time and has to be unlinked in Settings before moving to another Mac.
  • The Buy button shows a price that Paddle localizes by country; $16 is the US figure.

Key features

Moom

Pop-up palette
Hovering over a window's green button shows a palette of move and zoom actions. It can be customized with up to 61 actions, including folders, layouts and grids.
Saved layouts
Save the positions of a set of app windows and restore them later, for example when a laptop connects to an external display. Any-window layouts apply to the most recently used windows instead.
Snap and drop zones
Drag a window to a snap zone to move and zoom it. A saved layout placed in a snap zone turns its window positions into drop targets.
Custom actions and chains
Custom actions can be chained to run as one combined step or as a loop that advances each time it is used, and organized into nested folders.
Hover
Hold a set of modifier keys and move the mouse to move or resize the window under the pointer, even one in the background, without clicking.
Keyboard control
With the keyboard features enabled, windows can be moved, resized, centered and placed on an on-screen grid without the mouse, and custom actions run from a hot key.

Swish

Title bar snapping
A quick swipe on a window's title bar snaps it into position, in place of dragging the window to a screen edge.
Grids and shared dividers
Snapping supports 2×2, 3×2 and 3×3 grids, and dragging the divider between snapped windows resizes several of them at once.
Close, minimize and full screen
Pinching in closes a window, swiping down minimizes it and pinching out sends it full screen, replacing the three title bar buttons.
Screens and spaces
Swipes move windows between displays according to how the monitors are physically arranged, and further gestures work with macOS spaces.
Keyboard hotkeys
Arrow, WASD, IJKL and Dvorak hotkeys trigger the snapping, screen and spaces actions, configured in the Advanced tab of the settings.
30 gestures, each switchable
The site counts 30 window, Dock and menu bar gestures. Each can be turned on or off by clicking its icon in the settings window, which also includes a tutorial.
