Worth knowing
MyStudyLife
- The free plan holds up to 5 tasks at a time. Subtasks, repeating tasks, Calendar Sync and Activities need MSL+.
- On the free plan Scout is limited to the first timetable scan and a few chats.
- The vendor lists web, iPhone and Android versions only. There is no separate Mac or Windows app.
- Prices are from the US App Store description, which says they may vary by region. The vendor's MSL+ page lists no price.
Saturn
- Mobile apps only: iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Android. No web or desktop version is listed.
- The website still presents Saturn as the calendar built for high school, and the terms limit each school community to students of that school.
- Google Calendar is the only outside calendar the store listings name as a connection.
- The terms of use require users to be at least 13 years old.
Key features
MyStudyLife
- Class timetable
- Handles weekly, rotating, week A/B, block and custom schedules, with term and holiday dates. Classes pause during holidays so no reminders are sent for them.
- Homework and task tracking
- Tasks carry a due date and a reminder, and progress can be logged as partly complete. Subtasks, repeating tasks and the full set of task types are MSL+ features.
- Exams and grades
- Exams are stored with date, time, room and seat and shown with countdowns. Revision tasks can be tied to an exam, and grades are logged as results come in.
- Scout AI study coach
- Builds a timetable from a photo or screenshot, plans the week and drafts revision plans from exam dates. The first scan and a few chats are free; MSL+ removes the limits.
- Pomodoro focus timer
- A built-in timer for studying in set intervals with breaks, kept in the same app as the tasks being worked on.
- Family Connect
- A separate paid companion app that lets a parent or guardian see a linked student's schedule, homework, exams and grades, and add tasks or events to it.
Saturn
- School schedule formats
- Handles rotating periods, block schedules, A/B days, lunch waves, advisory and flex blocks. The listing says Saturn is in over 20,000 US high schools and can be carried on to college.
- Compare calendars with friends
- Shows when friends and family are free without needing their email address, so overlapping free time can be turned into a plan. Friends appear alongside your own calendar on the home tab.
- Shared and group calendars
- A shared calendar can be made for a trip, a household, a club or a team and joined through a link. Members get change and reminder notifications as events are updated.
- Typed or spoken event entry
- Typing or saying a phrase such as "Dinner with Dylan on Tuesday at 7" puts the event on the calendar. Events, to-dos and reminders can all be added by text or voice.
- Google Calendar and Snapchat
- Google Calendar can be connected so its events appear in Saturn. Connecting Snapchat brings in friends, birthdays and Bitmojis.
- Apple Watch app and widgets
- The Apple Watch app shows a countdown to the end of the current class or event, a schedule view of the day and watch face widgets, synced from the iPhone app.
