| Value for money | BWe can't tell you what it costs, because the vendor's site doesn't show a price. It only appears in the PayPro Global checkout. What's on record is that a license includes 12 months of updates, and later versions need a paid maintenance renewal. | BAdvanced is $29.99 a year for Mac and iOS on up to 3 devices, which is about typical for a paid utility here. Basic is $49.99 once, but it's Mac only and covers one major version. Both are for private use: work needs Business at $59.99 per user a year. |
| Free plan and trial | BFree for personal use on Windows and Mac, and the iPhone and iPad app is free. But license reminders start after 30 days of professional use, or when you use commercial-edition features. Input forms and clipboard history sit in the Professional edition. | CThere's no free plan. Without a license account the app runs in a trial mode where expansions are limited, and it stays that way until you add one. So you can look around for as long as you like before paying. |
| Features | AAbbreviations expand in any program, phrases live in multi-level folders, and macro functions add dates, calculations and conditions. Higher editions bring fill-in forms, SQL Server sharing, a document generator and AI rewriting. For a text expander, that's deep. | AAbbreviations insert text, images, dates or the output of a script in any app. Snippets can hold forms with dropdown menus, Quick Search finds them by keyword, and autocorrection sets fix common typos in several languages. Sets can be shared with a team. That's the full text expander job. |
| Ease of use | BNo store rating on record, so a B is as high as we go. Typing an abbreviation and watching it expand takes no learning. Picking an edition does: the website describes the Windows version, and the Mac editions have a different feature set. | BNo store rating on record, so a B is as high as we go. Type a short abbreviation and the text appears, and predefined typo corrections work without you setting them up. Sync is optional, through iCloud, Dropbox, OneDrive, a NAS or WebDAV. |
| Platforms and integrations | AWindows, Mac, and an iPhone and iPad app. It hooks into Outlook, Word, SQL Server, Dropbox, OneDrive and Google Drive, with OpenAI and DeepL for the AI side. No Android app is listed. | CMac, iPhone and iPad, so Apple only. Typinator 10 needs macOS 13 and the iOS app needs iOS 18. Windows is in public beta and described as not ready for production use. It syncs through iCloud, Dropbox or OneDrive and runs AppleScript. |
| Best for | big shared phrase libraries kept on your own network | text expansion that keeps snippets on your own Apple devices |
