Serposcope

Which one is for you
Pick SEO Panel if
- Fits if you're comfortable running your own SEO software on a server
- Works for tracking rankings on lots of sites without a per-site fee
Look elsewhere if
- Skip it if you've never run a PHP server and don't want to pay for the cloud edition
- Tight if you're on a cloud plan, capped at 50 or 150 keywords per project on 2 or 3 engines
- Not for you if you want keyword research, which isn't on the list
- Watch out: some tools are paid plugins at $10 to $30, and live Cloud API data is $9.99 to $99.99 a month
- Watch out: AI articles, social publishing and the AI assistant are only in the paid cloud edition
Pick Serposcope if
- Fits if you want ranking data kept on your own machine rather than in a vendor's cloud
- Works for technical users who already pay for proxies or a SERP API
Look elsewhere if
- Skip it if you want software that's kept up: it's marked unsupported, may not work, and 3.5 from January 2025 is the last release
- Watch out: Google checks need paid add-ons, since Scraping Ant's free plan doesn't work with Google and captcha solvers cost money
- Not for you if setting login protection by hand in a config file sounds like hard work
- Tight if you have Serposcope 2 data, since it can't be moved into version 3
- Watch out: the Windows and Mac installers aren't signed, so both systems warn before installing
How we grade them
| 2.4GPASEO PanelFair | 2.2GPASerposcopeFair | |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | CThe self-hosted edition is free, but only if you run your own server, which we count as a C. The cloud edition is $34.95 a month for 1 website, mid-range for this category, and plugins at $10 to $30 and live API data from $9.99 a month cost extra. | BThe program is free, with no paid edition. Reliable checks need paid help, though: Scraping Ant's free plan doesn't work with Google, and the captcha solvers it supports are paid services, so running it well isn't really free. |
| Free plan and trial | BFree means hosting it yourself: the open-source edition has unlimited websites and users, rank tracking, audits and Google data, which one person really could live on. Country Google domains and detailed backlinks are paid plugins, though. | AVersion 3.5 is a free download for Windows, Mac and Linux, with no account and no paid edition. Everything it does comes without paying Serposcope anything. |
| Features | CRank tracking, a site auditor with sitemaps, Moz metrics and backlinks, indexing, page speed and Google data. The basics with gaps: no keyword research, country domains need a $10 plugin, and the AI features are cloud only. | DRank tracking with saved result pages, a backlink watch and a local database you can query. But it needs proxies, captcha solvers or a SERP API to fetch Google reliably, and the developer says it may not work at all now. |
| Ease of use | CNo rating on record. Self-hosting needs PHP, MySQL and cURL, and keeping it running is on you. The cloud edition takes that away and comes with setup help. | DNo rating on record. You install it yourself, set login protection by hand in a config file and wire up proxies or captcha solvers, and both Windows and Mac warn before installing it. |
| Platforms and integrations | BA web app connected to Google Analytics, Search Console, Google Ads, PageSpeed Insights and Moz, run on your server or theirs. No desktop or phone app. | CA program for Windows, Mac and Linux that opens in your browser, linked only to scraping and captcha services. No phone app, and the API isn't documented. |
| Best for | self-hosted rank tracking for many sites | free rank tracking on your own machine |

How this page was made
- The verdict at the top follows a fixed rule. When both tools are in the same category and either is in our top three for it, the verdict follows that ranking: the higher-placed tool is our pick. The top three weigh who each tool suits as well as its grades, so a pick can go against the GPA. Otherwise the page does not pick one and says which grades higher: the higher GPA first; on a tie, the one with a free plan, then the one that starts cheaper in dollars a month, counted the same way for both; if they are still level, what the choice depends on.
- The grades are our own, from each tool’s review or report card. The GPA is their average.
- Prices, plans and platforms come from each tool’s listing. The table above says where each price was read and when.
