Value for money
AUpgrades are one-time payments from $2.49 to $11.99, and aCalendar+ bundles every one of them with no ads for $11.99 once. That's about two months of a typical calendar subscription, paid a single time.
BThe paid version only comes inside Google Workspace, from $7 a user a month on a 1-year commitment. That's about typical, and Gmail, Drive and Meet come with it. But Starter adds nothing to the calendar itself. More booking pages and payments wait for Standard at $14.
Free plan and trial
AFree gets day, week, month, agenda and year views, 8 widgets, printing and ICS or CSV export. It shows ads, at most one a day according to the maker. Tasks, public holidays and extra colours cost extra, but the calendar itself is all there.
AFree with a personal Google Account on web, Android and iPhone, with one appointment booking page thrown in. Most people will never pay. Extra booking pages, payments and automatic email reminders are the paid bits.
Features
AFive views, eight widgets, multi-select, and printing to PDF or PNG. Upgrades add tasks with subtasks from Google Tasks or Microsoft To Do, plus attendees, free or busy status and separate work and personal profiles.
AShared, colour-coded calendars you can view together, a booking page, Google Meet links and files on events, and Google Tasks next to them. Workspace plans add Gemini scheduling from Gmail and Time Insights, though Time Insights only shows on a computer.
Ease of use
BThere's no App Store rating to go on, since it isn't on iPhone. It picks up the calendars Android already syncs, so there's no new account to make. Swipe up and down through time, sideways to switch views.
B4.5 from about 132,000 App Store ratings. If you have a Google Account there's nothing to set up. On Workspace plans, an event spotted in an email can be added with one click.
Platforms and integrations
DAndroid only. The maker states there's no iOS, web or PC version and that none is planned. It does read Google Calendar, Exchange and CalDAV accounts through Android's own sync.
AWeb, Android and iPhone, tied into Gmail, Google Meet, Google Tasks and Stripe for paid bookings. No desktop app is listed, so on a computer it lives in a browser tab.

Worth knowing

aCalendar

  • Android only. The vendor states there is no iOS, web or PC version and that none is planned.
  • The free version shows ads, and tasks, attendees, profiles, public holidays and the wider color choices all need a paid upgrade.
  • In-app upgrades cannot be shared through Google Play Family Library; only the separate aCalendar+ app can.
  • Licenses are tied to the store account and cannot be moved between Google Play and Huawei AppGallery.

Google Calendar

  • The paid version is only sold as part of Google Workspace, which also includes Gmail, Drive and Meet.
  • Personal accounts and Business Starter get one booking page; extra schedules, payments and reminders need Business Standard or higher, or an eligible Google One plan.
  • Time Insights and working hours and location are limited to work or school accounts, and Time Insights can only be viewed on a computer.
  • No desktop app is listed; Google offers it on the web and as Android and iOS apps.

Key features

aCalendar

Day, week, month, agenda and year views
Swipe vertically to move through time and horizontally to switch views. Day and week views can show a mini month or a graphical week overview alongside.
Eight home screen widgets
Widgets include agenda, date, day and week layouts and a birthday widget added in version 2.9. Accent colors can be set per widget with the Colors upgrade.
Tasks next to events
The Tasks upgrade shows to-dos on their due dates in day, week and month views, with subtasks and a tasks widget. It works with Google Tasks, Microsoft To Do, CalDAV through Tasks.org, and local lists.
Business features
An upgrade adds attendee management, linking contacts to events, free or busy status, private events, and profiles that separate work and personal calendars.
Print and export
Calendar views can be printed or exported as PDF or PNG, and events exported as ICS or CSV files. Multi-select applies an action to several events at once.
Uses Android's calendar sync
The app runs no servers of its own. It reads and writes the calendars Android syncs, including Google Calendar, Microsoft Exchange accounts and CalDAV servers, plus local calendars.

Google Calendar

Appointment booking pages
Publish a page where others pick a time on your calendar. Eligible paid plans allow several schedules, Stripe payments, email verification and up to 20 co-hosts.
Shared and layered calendars
Create calendars shared with a team or a whole organization, and view several calendars together, color-coded by category.
Scheduling from Gmail with Gemini
On Workspace plans, Gemini in Gmail can suggest meeting times and add events detected in an email with one click.
Google Meet and attachments
Events can carry a Google Meet video link and attached files, so the call and its documents open from the invitation.
Time Insights and working location
Work and school accounts can see how much time goes to meetings and who they meet most, and can share working hours and location.
Tasks on the calendar
Items from Google Tasks appear on the calendar next to events.
