Who each one suits

Arcush

  • iPhone users who want a pared-back time-blocking planner
  • People who like their to-do list and calendar on one timeline
  • Buyers who prefer a low one-time price to a subscription

Sectograph

  • People who read an analog clock faster than a list of events
  • Android users who want their schedule on a widget or Wear OS watch
  • Seeing free time between meetings and the time left in the current one

Worth knowing

Arcush

  • iPhone only, on iOS 16 and above. The vendor says iPad, Mac and Apple Watch versions are planned and an Android app is not.
  • Calendar sync, blocking off time in calendars, color customization and recurring tasks all require Arcush PRO.
  • Calendar events can be edited in Arcush but not created there.
  • The About page says the app is built by three developers in their spare time.

Sectograph

  • It is not a to-do list. Its Google Play listing describes it as a planner that visualizes what is already on your calendar.
  • The Android app is free with in-app purchases the listing does not itemize, while the iOS app costs $3.99 up front.
  • Outlook calendar support is labelled beta on Android, and there is no web or desktop version.
  • The vendor's website is a single page with store links, so feature and price details come from the store listings.

Key features

Arcush

Daily timeline
Tasks sit as blocks on a timeline of the day, following the time-blocking technique, with a calendar view for planning hour by hour.
Inbox with automatic clearing
Ideas go into an Inbox to be scheduled later. Tasks that never get scheduled are cleared out automatically, and overdue ones can be brought back.
Calendar sync
With PRO, any calendar added to the iPhone's accounts can be synced. Synced events can be edited in Arcush, but new calendar events cannot be created there.
Blocked-off focus time
With PRO, a time slot can be reserved in a work calendar so that other people see it as taken.
Recurring tasks and colors
PRO adds daily, weekly and monthly repeats, plus color-coding for tasks and a choice of app colors.
Quick add, widgets and notifications
All task settings are on one screen, tasks can be added from a Home Screen widget, and alerts cover upcoming and overdue tasks.

Sectograph

Clock-face timeline
The day is drawn as a 12-hour dial, or 24-hour if you prefer, with each event placed at the hours it happens and sized to its duration.
Free time and countdowns
Sectograph calculates the gaps between events and the time from now until the next one, and updates the view as time passes.
Reads existing calendars
On Android it reads Google Calendar and the device's local calendars. Microsoft Outlook calendar support is labelled beta.
Home screen widget
A widget keeps the dial on the home screen, refreshing once a minute. Tapping a sector opens event details and quick actions.
Wear OS support
The Android version includes a watch app with an interactive widget, a tile, a large complication and a separately installed watch face.
Zoom and grid views
Options on Android include a 24-hour mode, zooming the dial to between 1 and 12 hours, and month and day grid views.
