Value for money
BPro is $17 a month on an annual subscription, which is $200 up front, or $20 billed monthly. That's the going rate for a big-name assistant, and it includes the Claude Code coding agent and Research. There's no cheaper paid tier, and even paid plans have weekly limits.
CSuperGrok is $30 a month, where ChatGPT Plus is $20 and Google AI Pro is $19.99. There's a $10 Lite tier, but xAI doesn't list what's in it. And paid features pause when your weekly allowance runs out, unless you buy extra credits.
Free plan and trial
BThe free plan has a lot in it: web search, file creation, code execution, memory, connectors and Artifacts. But usage resets on a rolling five-hour window and is lower than on paid plans, with no numbers given. So we can't say how far it goes, and that keeps it at a B.
BFree to start, with chat and voice, which is enough to see if you like it. But xAI's docs don't say how much you get. They only say the free limits reset on their own schedule.
Features
AChat for writing, code and data, with files, code execution and Artifacts built in. Web search is on every plan and Research handles longer digs. Memory carries context between chats, connectors reach Slack and Google Workspace, and paid plans include Claude Code for the terminal, VS Code and JetBrains.
AAnswers that draw on live X posts and the web, deep research, file uploads up to 150 MB, images and video with sound, and a voice mode. Connectors reach Gmail, Google Drive, Outlook, Teams and Salesforce. It's a long list.
Ease of use
A4.7 from about 273,700 App Store ratings. It's a chat box: type what you need and go. There's nothing to set up unless you want to connect your other apps.
B4.9 from about 1.5 million App Store ratings, and getting started is as simple as typing a question. But several reviewers describe freezes and crashes, and xAI's own FAQ has a run of answers about subscriptions that don't show up when you sign in a different way.
Platforms and integrations
AWeb, Mac, Windows, iPhone, Android and a browser extension, plus a Linux desktop app that's still in beta. It connects to Slack, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Chrome, VS Code and JetBrains, and there's an API.
BWeb, iPhone and Android, with an API, a catalogue of connectors and room for your own MCP servers. But the docs mention no Mac or Windows app, and Companions are in the iOS app only.
