Claude
Anthropic's AI assistant for writing, analysis and coding

Claude report card
Excellent · out of 4.0 · graded Oct 9, 2026
Best for writing, analysis and coding in one assistant
Claude is Anthropic's assistant for writing, analysis and coding, and it runs on pretty much everything: web, Mac, Windows, Linux, iPhone and Android. The free plan already searches the web, creates files, runs code and remembers things between chats. The catch is usage: every plan is capped in rolling five-hour sessions, and the first paid step is Pro at $17 a month billed annually, with nothing cheaper in between.
Who Claude is for
- Great if you want writing, analysis and coding help from one assistant
- Handy when you're a developer, as every paid plan includes the Claude Code agent
- Good for teams of 2 to 150 that need SSO and central billing
Who Claude is not for
- Tight if you work in long bursts, since usage is capped in rolling five-hour sessions on every plan
- Pricey if you wanted a cheap first step, as nothing sits between Free and Pro at $17 a month billed annually
- Not for you if you expect easy refunds, because payments are generally non-refundable
Why Claude gets a 3.6
Five grades, each with its reason. The GPA is their average: an A is 4 points, an F is none.
- BValue for moneyPro is $17 a month on an annual subscription, which is $200 up front, or $20 billed monthly. That's the going rate for a big-name assistant, and it includes the Claude Code coding agent and Research. There's no cheaper paid tier, and even paid plans have weekly limits.
- BFree plan and trialThe free plan has a lot in it: web search, file creation, code execution, memory, connectors and Artifacts. But usage resets on a rolling five-hour window and is lower than on paid plans, with no numbers given. So we can't say how far it goes, and that keeps it at a B.
- AFeaturesChat for writing, code and data, with files, code execution and Artifacts built in. Web search is on every plan and Research handles longer digs. Memory carries context between chats, connectors reach Slack and Google Workspace, and paid plans include Claude Code for the terminal, VS Code and JetBrains.
- AEase of use4.7 from about 273,700 App Store ratings. It's a chat box: type what you need and go. There's nothing to set up unless you want to connect your other apps.
- APlatforms and integrationsWeb, Mac, Windows, iPhone, Android and a browser extension, plus a Linux desktop app that's still in beta. It connects to Slack, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Chrome, VS Code and JetBrains, and there's an API.
What these grades rest on. Graded from this listing, whose facts were read from Anthropic's own pages on 4 October 2026, and its App Store rating. Its pricing page on 9 October 2026 showed Projects on the Free plan, limited to 5, where the listing has them start at Pro, so Projects are left out here. Not based on using the product, and shorter than our full reviews. How we review and grade.
