Claude refunds and cancellation

CGrade

Ordinary · checked Oct 18, 2026

Anthropic's line is short: unless the terms or the law say otherwise, payments are not refunded. Cancelling does not get the month back, it only stops the next one. What you do get is a tidy exit, two clicks in Settings, with the paid plan running to the end of the period you bought. No refunds and an easy door is the ordinary deal for a subscription, so it is a C.

Getting your money back

Except where the consumer terms or the law provide otherwise, all payments are non-refundable, and the help article on refunds repeats it. Where a payment is refundable, you ask through the support messenger under Claude Refund Request, which checks your eligibility. Customers in the EEA and the UK can get a refund within 14 days of purchase, prorated to use. App Store purchases are Apple's to refund.

How to cancel Claude

A Pro or Max plan bought on the web or in the desktop app is cancelled from Settings, then Billing. One bought in the iOS or Android app is handled by that store, reached through Billing and then Manage subscription inside the app. Cancel at least 24 hours before the next billing date to avoid the next charge.

  1. Log in to Claude on the web or open the desktop app
  2. Click your initials or name in the lower left corner
  3. Select Settings
  4. Go to Billing
  5. Click Cancel

What you keep afterwards

Cancelling takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and the paid plan keeps working until then. Monthly API credits included with Max and Team plans stop being issued, though credits already claimed stay usable until they expire and are never refunded. The consumer terms add that Anthropic may delete the materials and data on an account when a subscription or access ends.

Renewals

The consumer terms say a paid subscription renews automatically for another term the same length as the last, charged up front, until you cancel. Fees will not change during a term, and any increase comes with at least 30 days' notice, taking effect at the next renewal so you can leave first. No reminder before an ordinary renewal is mentioned.

In your favour

  • Cancelling a web plan is five clicks in Settings, with nobody to write to and no questions asked.
  • You keep the paid plan to the end of the period you already paid for.
  • A price rise comes with at least 30 days' warning and takes effect only at the next renewal.
  • Upgrade from Pro or Max to Team and the old plan is refunded pro rata without you asking.

Watch out for

  • Payments are non-refundable as a rule. Regretting the month does not get it back.
  • Cancel at least 24 hours before the billing date or the next charge will already have gone.
  • Subscribed in the iPhone app? Only Apple can refund it, and it decides at its own discretion.
  • Dispute a charge with your bank and support cannot refund you until the dispute is dropped.

Getting help from Claude

CGrade

Ordinary · checked Oct 18, 2026

Anthropic says it plainly: support is in writing, through the messenger and by email, and there is no phone line and no live chat. An AI bot called Fin takes the first pass and hands you to the Product Support team when it cannot help. The help centre is big and well organised. What is missing is any promise about timing, beyond the admission that it varies by plan. A written route with no stated hours or reply time is a C.

Ways to get help

  • Email

Every reply is also emailed to the address on your account, and replying to that email continues the same conversation, so you can close the messenger. The consumer terms also give a support address for cancelling.

    Stated on support.claude.com
  • Contact form or ticket

A support messenger opened from Get help. Fin, an AI bot, answers first and takes the details; where more is needed it passes the case to the Product Support team, who reply in the same conversation.

  • Help inside the app

Get help sits in the account menu in Claude itself, in the desktop app and in the Console, and the same messenger opens from an icon on any help centre page once you are signed in.

  • Help centre

A large help centre split into collections for the Pro and Max plans, Team and Enterprise, Claude Code, the desktop and mobile apps, the API and Console, privacy and more, readable without signing in.

When people answer

Its pages do not say.

How fast it says it replies

Anthropic says support is asynchronous: once a request reaches the team a specialist investigates and replies in the same conversation, and that response times vary by plan and by how severe the issue is. No target in hours or days is given for any plan.

What depends on your plan

Pro and Max subscribers, Team and Enterprise owners and Console admins get the help centre, Fin and the Product Support team. Team non-owners and Console non-admins get Fin only, and must ask an owner to escalate on their behalf. Enterprise owners can nominate support contacts who may reach a human without holding an owner role.

In your favour

  • Pro and Max subscribers reach the human support team, not just the bot.
  • Replies land in your email as well as the messenger, so nothing is trapped in a chat window.
  • Asking for a refund is a built-in option in the messenger, not a letter you have to compose.
  • The help centre is large and specific, with its own collections for billing, cancelling and refunds.

Watch out for

  • No phone support and no live chat. Anthropic states both plainly.
  • A bot takes the first pass and decides whether your question reaches a person.
  • No hours and no reply time are published. Anthropic only says times vary by plan.
  • On a Team plan, ordinary members cannot escalate to a human. An owner has to do it for them.

What these two grades rest on. Read on 18 October 2026: Anthropic's consumer terms of service and the Claude help centre's articles on cancelling a Pro or Max subscription, requesting a refund, paid plan billing and how to get support, plus the help centre's own front page. Nobody here cancelled a plan or contacted its support. They are graded apart from the five that make the GPA. How we grade refunds and support.
