Who each one suits

FUTO Voice Input

  • Android users who want voice typing that works with no connection
  • People using keyboards such as HeliBoard, FlorisBoard or SwiftKey
  • Users who do not want dictation sent to a cloud service

Wispr Flow

  • People who write a lot of email, chat and documents and prefer to speak
  • Developers dictating into a terminal, code editor or AI tool
  • Students and educators, who get 50% off Pro with an education email

Worth knowing

FUTO Voice Input

  • It is Android only and does not work with Gboard or Samsung Keyboard, which are tied to their own voice input.
  • The README says development has largely shifted to FUTO Keyboard, and the app notes that no major updates are expected.
  • Only 17 languages are offered by default; others are hidden because the smaller Whisper models handle them poorly.
  • The source code is under the FUTO Source First License 1.0, and Android's SpeechRecognizer API is not supported yet.

Wispr Flow

  • Free dictation is capped at 2,000 words a week on desktop and 1,000 a week on mobile.
  • The Notetaker runs on Mac and Windows only; the vendor says mobile is on the roadmap.
  • SAML SSO and org-wide HIPAA enforcement need Growth, and SCIM and audit logs need Enterprise.
  • Growth is listed at a discounted price next to a crossed-out $26 a month (annual); no end date is given.

Key features

FUTO Voice Input

Voice input for keyboards and apps
It answers Android's standard speech recognition intent with a floating window, and it acts as a voice input method that opens in place of the keyboard when a compatible keyboard calls it.
Fully on-device recognition
All processing happens offline on the phone using Whisper models. FUTO says recordings are never saved or sent anywhere, and the app goes online only to download optional models.
English and multilingual models
English-only and multilingual models each come in three sizes, with 39, 74 or 244 million parameters. Smaller models respond faster and larger ones are more accurate.
Automatic language detection
The spoken language is detected automatically, with manual selection available. Seventeen languages are offered by default, and a setting reveals less well trained ones.
Several ways to install
The app is available from Google Play, from FUTO's F-Droid repository and as a standalone APK of about 70 MB. Only the Play Store build uses Play billing.

Wispr Flow

Dictation in any app
Speech-to-text works wherever you can type, including Gmail, Slack, Notion, a terminal or a code editor, in 100+ languages with automatic language detection.
Automatic cleanup
Removes filler words, repetitions and mid-sentence corrections, then adds punctuation and formatting so the output reads like written text.
Personal dictionary
Learns unusual words and names automatically, and you can add your own. Paid plans add a dictionary shared across the team.
Snippets
Store text you type all the time, such as email replies, links, addresses and bios, and reuse it instead of dictating or typing it again.
Notetaker for meetings
On Mac and Windows, the Notetaker captures meetings and voice memos, identifies speakers and answers questions across meetings. Notes can be used in Claude and ChatGPT through MCP.
Security and admin controls
Wispr states SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA and ISO 27001 certification. Growth adds SAML SSO and usage reporting; SCIM and audit logs are on Enterprise.
