| Value for money | BOur listing can't state what Plus, Pro or Ultra cost, because Gamma shows those only on its pricing page. The one figure on record is Business at $40 a member a month, billed annually. Annual billing is 28% off, and Ultra is monthly only. | BYou can't buy Sway on its own. The extras come inside Microsoft 365, from $7.00 a user a month paid yearly for Business Basic, or $9.99 a month for Personal. About typical here, but that's a whole office suite if all you wanted was a password on a Sway. |
| Free plan and trial | BFree with no time limit and no card. But it's 400 AI credits that don't refresh, 10 slides a prompt and basic image models, and PDF and PowerPoint exports carry a Gamma badge. Each referral earns 200 more credits. | AFree with a personal Microsoft account, and most people could stay there. You get up to 200 content items per Sway, including 150 images and 150 paragraphs, with sharing by link and export. Password protection needs Microsoft 365. |
| Features | AStart from a topic, pasted text or an imported PowerPoint, Word or PDF file. The agent researches, writes, designs and adds images. Present in the browser with speaker notes, export to PDF, PNG or PowerPoint, or publish the thing as a website. | BCards for text, images and videos, a design engine that lays them out, Remix for a new look in a click, and export to Word or PDF. Solid for reports and newsletters. But video and audio files can't be uploaded any more, only embedded. |
| Ease of use | A4.8 from about 1,100 App Store ratings. You describe what you want and approve a plan, then ask for changes in plain words. No slide-arranging needed. | BThere's no App Store rating on record for it, so a B is as high as we go. Sway handles the formatting and layout itself, and you can start from a topic or a document instead of a blank canvas. |
| Platforms and integrations | AWeb, iPhone and Android, with ChatGPT, Claude and Slack connectors on every plan and a REST API from Pro up. The phone apps are early access, though: US and Canada only, and they edit through the agent alone. | CA web browser is the only place it runs, and it needs a connection. Support for the Windows app ended on June 1, 2026. You can embed a Sway in a web page, but that's about it for hooking into anything else. |
| Best for | a first-draft deck from a prompt or a file | newsletters and reports shared as a link |

- Organizations that already pay for Microsoft 365
Worth knowing
Gamma
- Plus, Pro and Ultra prices are shown only on Gamma's pricing page; its help center gives the Business price, $40 per member per month billed annually.
- Free-plan AI credits do not refresh: accounts start with 400 and earn 200 more per referral. Paid plans get monthly credits, from 1,000 on Plus to 20,000 on Ultra.
- API keys, detailed viewer analytics, password protection and custom domains start at the Pro plan, and Ultra is sold on monthly billing only.
- The mobile apps are in early access, limited to the US and Canada, and edit only through the agent, with no manual editing.
Microsoft Sway
- Sway runs only in a web browser and needs an internet connection; support for the Windows app ended on June 1, 2026.
- Free accounts are limited to 200 content items per Sway, against 1,500 with Microsoft 365; password protection and autoplay also need a subscription.
- Video and audio files can no longer be uploaded: since June 2024 they can only be embedded.
- Sway is not sold on its own. Its paid features come with Microsoft 365 subscriptions that cover the whole suite.
Key features
Gamma
- Generate, paste or import
- Three ways to start: generate a draft from a topic, paste existing text for Gamma to lay out, or import a PowerPoint, Word or PDF file or a URL to be restyled.
- Agent
- The agent asks about goal and audience, shows a plan to approve, then researches, writes, designs and adds images. Changes are requested in plain language in the same chat.
- Present mode
- Decks are presented full screen or in a tab, with a presenter view for private speaker notes, a spotlight mode that highlights the current block, and a follow link viewers can use to keep pace.
- Export and import
- Exports to PDF, PNG and PowerPoint, with tables kept editable in PPTX. Imports accept PowerPoint and Word files up to 200 MB and PDFs up to 100 MB.
- Sites and custom domains
- A gamma can be published as a website. Pro can publish up to 10 multi-page sites to custom domains, and Ultra and Business up to 100.
- API and connectors
- A REST API, generally available since November 2025, creates gammas from text or templates on Pro and higher plans. ChatGPT, Claude and Slack connectors work on every plan.
Microsoft Sway
- Storyline of cards
- Content is typed or dropped into a sequence of cards, each holding text, images, videos or Office documents. Cards can be reordered at any time.
- Built-in design engine
- Sway handles formatting and layout itself. A different design can be applied in a click through Remix, or the layout can be customized by hand.
- Start from a topic or document
- A new Sway can be started from a topic or an existing document rather than a blank canvas, and featured templates are offered on the My Sways page.
- Sharing by link and embed
- View or edit links are sent to others, and viewers need no account or download. A Sway can be embedded in a web page, and work accounts can limit access to the organization or named people.
- Export and accessibility
- A Sway can be exported to Word or PDF and printed. An accessibility view, an accessibility checker and closed captioning support are available on every plan.
- Microsoft 365 extras
- A Microsoft 365 subscription adds password protection, removal of the Sway branding overlay, logo support, autoplay, reader analytics and higher content limits.
