Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.0
GPA, above 7 of the 21 other web hosts we grade
hosting.com is the new name of A2 Hosting, merged with World Host Group under one brand. It sells shared hosting in Starter, Pro and Max plans on LiteSpeed servers with NVMe storage, plus its own cloud servers and dedicated hardware. Every shared plan includes daily backups, malware removal, a free first-year domain and an AI assistant called Orbi.
To get you started, here are 7 things to know about hosting.com, taken from its own pages and our grades.
The Orbi assistant answers setup and DNS questions and passes you to people when needed, but you're still setting up a site.
- 1
Best for hosting you can run from scripts or an AI agent
The checkout fills it in, and our reader couldn't see it.
- 2
It runs on Web
Web.
- 3
LiteSpeed, NVMe and AMD EPYC on every plan
All shared plans run on LiteSpeed web servers with NVMe storage and AMD EPYC processors, with published RAM, vCPU and IOPS limits for each plan.
- 4
Malware removal and firewall
Monarx scans continuously and removes malicious code itself. Every plan also has a web application firewall and brute-force protection.
- 5
Daily backups with self-restore
Backups run every day with 30 days of restore points, and you can restore a single file, database or mailbox without opening a ticket.
- 6
A 2.0 GPA, above 7 of 21
That is against the other web hosts we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 7
Keep it
To replace hosting.com you would be making an engine that recognises new malware as it appears. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card
Best for hosting you can run from scripts or an AI agent
hosting.com, the new name for A2 Hosting, puts a lot into every shared plan: daily backups kept for 30 days, malware removal, a firewall, and an API plus an MCP server so you can manage it from scripts or an AI tool. What we can't tell you is the price. The checkout fills it in, and our reader couldn't see it.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | No price on record: plan prices are filled in by the checkout and couldn't be read, so no two-year figure can be worked out. With nothing to compare, it sits at C, the grade for no stated price. First-term prices renew at regular rates. |
| Free plan and trial | F | Nothing free on record: no free plan and no trial, so you pay before you can try it. |
| Features | B | Daily backups with 30 days of restore points you can use yourself, Monarx malware removal, a firewall, a first-year domain and free managed migration on every plan. Staging needs Pro, but nothing in the core job is missing on Starter. |
| Ease of use | C | No app store rating to go on. The Orbi assistant answers setup and DNS questions and passes you to people when needed, but you're still setting up a site. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | A web dashboard with no app on record, but shared plans come with an OpenAPI interface and an MCP server, and it works with Claude. Pro adds a Claude skills pack. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who hosting.com is for
- Great if you want to manage hosting from scripts, Claude or another AI agent
- Handy when you'd like to restore one file or database yourself, without a ticket
- Good for old A2 Hosting customers weighing up the renamed plans
Who it is not for
- Not for you if you need staging on the cheapest plan, as it starts on Pro
- Tight if you need priority support or an SLA, which only come with Max
Good to know
Good for
- Existing A2 Hosting customers weighing the renamed plans
- Developers who want to manage hosting through an API or an AI agent
- Small business sites that want backups and malware removal built in
Worth knowing
- Plan prices are filled in by the checkout and could not be read, so they are not listed here; promotional prices cover the first term and plans renew at regular rates.
- Staging sites, preview URLs and Node.js need Pro or higher; priority support, a premium SSL and a service level agreement need Max.
- The free domain is for the first year only and then renews at the standard rate.
- A2 Hosting's old plan names are retired: Startup became Starter, Turbo Boost became Pro and Turbo Max became Max.
Part 02 · Pricing
What it costs
Every plan, the free plan, ways to pay less and how prices have moved
hosting.com's current pricing could not be confirmed from its own site.
No price on record: plan prices are filled in by the checkout and couldn't be read, so no two-year figure can be worked out.
We could not confirm hosting.com’s current prices from its own site, so this guide lists no plans. hosting.com has them.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace hosting.com you would be making an engine that recognises new malware as it appears. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
What you could not
- An engine that recognises new malware as it appears.
- It plugs into other products, WordPress and Claude among them, and has an API.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. hosting.com’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
