Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.8
GPA, above 72 of the 147 other note-taking apps we grade
Amplenote combines note-taking with task management. Ideas move through four connected modes, Jots, Notes, Tasks and Calendar, so a to-do written inside a note can be prioritized and scheduled without leaving the app. Notes support Markdown-style formatting, bidirectional links and nested tags, and paid plans add calendar sync, web publishing and password-encrypted Vault Notes.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Amplenote, taken from its own pages and our grades.
Four modes is a lot to take in, though they follow one idea from a jot to a note to a task to a time slot.

The report card
Best for notes whose to-dos end up on a calendar
Amplenote is a notes app where a to-do written inside a note can get a priority and a slot on the calendar without leaving the app, and all four modes are on the free plan. Syncing with your real calendar and the native desktop app need Pro at $7.99 a month, publishing and Vault Notes need Unlimited at $11.99, and the prices on record come from the App Store, not the vendor's own page.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | Pro is $7.99 a month, or $69.99 a year, on the US App Store. Note apps here sit at about $6 a month in the middle, so that's the dearer half, and calendar sync and the desktop app are both behind it. Publishing and Vault Notes are a step further up again, on Unlimited at $11.99. |
| Free plan and trial | B | The free Personal plan syncs across unlimited devices and has all four modes, so one person really could live on it. It just won't talk to your Google or Outlook calendar, and a computer gets the web app or a PWA rather than the real desktop app. |
| Features | B | The notes side is all there: markdown-style formatting, links that work both ways, nested tags you can browse like folders, offline on phones. Then to-dos live in the note they came from, repeat, hide until later and get marked urgent or important. |
| Ease of use | B | 4.64 from about 490 App Store ratings, short of the 4.7 from 1,000 ratings an A needs. Four modes is a lot to take in, though they follow one idea from a jot to a note to a task to a time slot. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web, iPhone, Android and a browser extension, plus Mac, Windows and Linux apps on Pro. What it plugs into is thinner: Google, Outlook and Apple calendars, and no API on record. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Amplenote is for
- Fits if your to-dos start life inside meeting notes and need a date
- Works for people who want notes, tasks and a calendar in one app
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you want tasks on your Google, Outlook or Apple calendar for free, as two-way sync is Pro at $7.99 a month
- Not for you if you want a native desktop app on the free plan, because computers get the web app or a PWA until Pro
- Pricey if you want to publish notes to the web or lock them in a Vault, which needs Unlimited at $11.99 a month
- Tight if you want it to plug into other apps, as it lists only Google, Outlook and Apple calendars and no API
- Watch out: prices on record are US App Store ones, the vendor's pricing page could not be read, and Ample Agent Pro is a separate $7.99 a month
Good to know
Good for
- People who want notes, to-dos and a calendar in one app
- Turning meeting notes into prioritized, scheduled tasks
- Users who want a free plan that syncs across all their devices
Worth knowing
- Prices here come from the US App Store listing; the vendor's own pricing page could not be read, and web checkout prices may differ.
- Two-way calendar sync and the native desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux need Pro or higher; the free plan uses the web app or a PWA.
- Publishing notes and password-encrypted Vault Notes are part of the Unlimited plan and above.
- The App Store also lists a separate Ample Agent Pro purchase at $7.99 a month.
