Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
3.2
GPA, above 66 of the 74 other calendar and scheduling apps we grade
Calendar is Apple's own calendar app for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch, with a browser version at iCloud.com. It shows events from iCloud, Google, Exchange and other CalDAV accounts in one view, next to reminders, holidays, birthdays and subscribed calendars. iCloud calendars sync across devices signed in to the same Apple Account and can be shared with other iCloud users or published as a read-only link.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Apple Calendar, taken from its own pages and our grades.
There are no booking links either, so if anyone you plan with is on Android, look elsewhere.
- 1
Best for a free calendar across your Apple devices
Apple Calendar is the free calendar on every iPhone, iPad and Mac, and it shows your iCloud, Google and Exchange calendars in one view.
- 2
It is free
Apple Calendar has no paid plan at all. The whole app is free: the US App Store lists Calendar as Free with no in-app purchases shown. Syncing iCloud calendars needs an Apple Account.
- 3
It runs on 3 platforms
Web, macOS and iOS.
- 4
Several accounts in one calendar
Add iCloud, Google, Microsoft Exchange and other CalDAV accounts and see their events together in List, Day, Week or Month view, with a color for each calendar.
- 5
Natural-language event entry
On Mac, typing a phrase such as "Football Game on Saturday from 11 am - 1 pm" creates the event with its date and time filled in. Siri can add or change events by voice.
- 6
Travel time and time-to-leave alerts
Adding a location attaches a map and weather, and Calendar sends an alert when it is time to leave, based on traffic or transit conditions. Travel time can be added to the event's duration.
- 7
A 3.2 GPA, above 66 of 74
That is against the other calendar and scheduling apps we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 8
Keep it
Apple Calendar is free, so making your own would save you nothing.
- 9
What users like
Commenters compare it favourably with other calendar apps, among them Google Calendar and the calendars available on Android.

The report card
Best for a free calendar across your Apple devices
Apple Calendar is the free calendar on every iPhone, iPad and Mac, and it shows your iCloud, Google and Exchange calendars in one view. It's Apple only: there's no Android app, Windows means syncing into Outlook, the website won't run on a phone, and only iCloud users can edit a calendar you share. There are no booking links either, so if anyone you plan with is on Android, look elsewhere.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | A | Nothing to buy, now or later. The US App Store shows no in-app purchases, so several accounts in one view and typed-in events on a Mac come free, where Calendars by Readdle keeps both for its $19.99 a year plan. |
| Free plan and trial | A | Free outright, with no paid tier above it holding anything back and no trial to run out. All you need is Apple kit, or an Apple Account for the iCloud.com version. |
| Features | C | The basic calendar, plus one extra: a location on an event gets you a map and an alert when traffic says leave now. The gaps are on Apple's own pages. No booking links or polls, typed-in events only on a Mac, editable sharing only for iCloud users, and no leaving alert past three hours away. |
| Ease of use | A | 4.9 from about 1.5 million App Store ratings, which is the highest mark in this whole category. It's already on the iPhone, iPad and Mac, so nothing to install and barely anything to learn. Some long-time users do find the newer layout cramped. |
| Platforms and integrations | C | One family of devices: iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch, plus iCloud.com, and Apple's guide says that website needs a tablet or computer rather than a phone. No Android app, and Windows means syncing into Outlook through iCloud for Windows. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Apple Calendar is for
- Fits if you have an iPhone, iPad or Mac and want a calendar that costs nothing
- Works for seeing iCloud, Google and Exchange events in one view
Who it is not for
- Skip it if anyone you plan with has an Android phone, because there's no app for it
- Not for you if you want people to book time with you, as we found no booking links or polls in Apple's guide
- Tight if you share with people outside iCloud, who only get a public calendar they can't edit
- Watch out: on Windows it means syncing into Outlook, and the iCloud.com version won't run in a phone browser
- Too light for custom settings: no 45-minute travel time, no leave alert past 3 hours away, and typed-in events only on a Mac
Good to know
Good for
- People with an iPhone, iPad or Mac who want a calendar at no cost
- Seeing iCloud, Google and Exchange calendars side by side
- Families and friends sharing an iCloud calendar
Worth knowing
- Apple's setup guide covers iPhone, iPad, Mac and iCloud.com, with Windows handled by syncing to Outlook through iCloud for Windows. No Android app is listed.
- Calendar on iCloud.com needs a tablet or computer; Apple's guide says it cannot be used from a phone browser.
- Editable sharing is limited to iCloud calendars and people with iCloud accounts. Everyone else can only view a public, read-only calendar.
- Time-to-leave alerts are not sent for destinations more than three hours away, and travel time does not update when an event's location changes.
What people say
- 4.9on the App Store, from 1,514,731 ratings
What they like
- Commenters compare it favourably with other calendar apps, among them Google Calendar and the calendars available on Android.
What they don’t
- Reviewers ask for more control than the fixed choices give, such as an event that repeats on the second Saturday of each month, a travel time of their own or a location that is not a street address.
8 App Store reviews about Calendar, five of them more than three years old, and about 15 Hacker News comments from February 2025 to September 2026

Part 04 · Standing
Where it stands
Its grades against its category, and whether to keep it or make your own
66/74
Other calendar and scheduling apps it is graded above
Apple Calendar's GPA of 3.2 is higher than 66 of the 74 other calendar and scheduling apps we grade, and level with 5.
It stands best on ease of use (A, above 62 of 74) and worst on features (C, above 3).
Apple Calendar has no paid plan.
On features, ease of use and platforms it scores 2.7 out of 4. Nothing scores higher for less, though at least one tool matches that score at a lower price.
Each grade against the category
Every bar is all 75 calendar and scheduling apps we grade, cut by the letter each got. Apple Calendar’s own letter is outlined.

Price against what you get
Each dot is one of 67 calendar and scheduling apps. Further left costs less; higher up scores better on features, ease of use and platforms. Apple Calendar is the marked dot.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
Apple Calendar is free, so making your own would save you nothing.
And it is not the kind of software a weekend replaces. It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 3.2 is higher than 66 of the 74 other calendar and scheduling apps we grade.
What you could make
- Calendar, natural-language input and tasks: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- Apps for macOS and iOS that stay in step with each other.
- Several people working in it at the same moment.
- It plugs into other products, iCloud, Google and Microsoft Exchange among them.
- Hooks into the device itself: an Apple Watch app and Siri.
What this rests on. Apple Calendar’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
Part 05 · Refunds
After you pay
Getting your money back, getting out, and getting help
What happens once you have paid: whether you can get your money back, how to leave, and how to reach a person when something goes wrong. Each is graded from Apple Calendar’s own terms and help pages.
Leaving Apple Calendar
Not graded · checked Oct 18, 2026
Calendar comes with every Apple device and costs nothing, so there is no plan to pay for and nothing to refund. The only account to close is the Apple Account your calendars sync through, and Apple lets you delete that yourself, at any time and for any reason. It is permanent, and it takes everything else in iCloud with it, so export your calendars first.
- Closing your account
There is no paid plan to end. The account behind iCloud calendars is your Apple Account, which Apple says you can permanently delete at any time and for any reason: you sign in on Apple's Data and Privacy page and choose the request to delete your account. Apple then verifies you are the account holder before deleting it.
Stated on support.apple.com- What you keep afterwards
Apple says a deleted Apple Account and the content stored in iCloud with it are permanently deleted from its servers, cannot be restored, and the account cannot be reopened. It recommends backing up iCloud data first and suggests deactivating instead, where that is offered. The Calendar User Guide explains how to export a calendar's events to an .ics file before you go.
Stated on support.apple.com
In your favour
- Nothing to pay, so nothing to cancel and no money to try to claw back.
- You can delete your Apple Account yourself, at any time and for any reason.
- Each calendar can be exported as a standard .ics file, which any other calendar app reads.
Watch out for
- Deleting an Apple Account is permanent and takes all of iCloud with it, not just your calendars.
- Apple cannot restore the data afterwards, so export the calendars before you ask.
- If you might come back, Apple itself suggests deactivating instead, where that is offered.
- An active AppleCare plan blocks deletion until you cancel it.
Customer support
Good · checked Oct 18, 2026
Calendar has no support team of its own; you get Apple's, and Apple's is generous for an app that costs nothing. There is a chat that runs in Messages, a phone line in the countries Apple lists, a version of the user guide for every recent macOS, and a huge public forum. It falls short of an A because the contact page states no hours and no reply time, and Apple says plainly that unlisted regions get no live support at all.
Ways to get help
Live chat
The Contact Apple Support page offers a chat with Apple that opens in the Messages app on your device. It covers Apple products in general rather than Calendar specifically.
Stated on support.apple.comPhone
Apple lists phone support country by country on the same page. It states that if your region is not listed there, Apple does not offer live support in your region.
Stated on support.apple.comHelp centre
The Calendar User Guide for Mac walks through setting up accounts, adding and editing events, sharing and exporting calendars, with a separate version for each recent macOS release.
Stated on support.apple.comCommunity or forum
The Apple Support Community is a public forum, free to read and to post in, where Apple customers and other users answer questions about any Apple product.
Stated on discussions.apple.com

- When people answer
Its pages do not say.
- How fast it says it replies
Its pages do not say.
- What depends on your plan
Its pages do not say.
In your favour
- You can reach Apple live, by chat in Messages or by phone, for an app that costs nothing.
- The user guide is thorough and kept in step with each macOS release.
- The Apple Support Community is public and covers every Apple product, Calendar included.
Watch out for
- Neither hours nor a reply time is stated anywhere on the contact page.
- Apple says that if your region is not listed, it offers no live support there.
- There is no line just for Calendar: you go in through Apple's general support.
What these two grades rest on. Read on 18 October 2026: Apple's support articles on deleting an Apple Account and contacting Apple Support, the Calendar User Guide for Mac and its page on importing and exporting calendars, the Apple Support Community and the app's App Store listing. Nobody here closed an account or contacted Apple's support. They are graded apart from the five that make the GPA. How we grade refunds and support.
