Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.6
GPA, above 28 of the 52 other screen recording and video tools we grade
Awesome Screenshot combines a screenshot tool and a screen recorder in one browser extension, with Mac, Windows and iOS apps alongside it. Captures can be annotated, saved to the computer or uploaded to a cloud library and shared by link, and recordings can be trimmed and marked up in a built-in editor. Individual plans are priced by how many screenshots and recordings are kept in the cloud, and separate workspace plans cover teams.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Awesome Screenshot, taken from its own pages and our grades.
No store rating on record, but there's nothing to set up: it lives in your browser toolbar.
- 1
Best for full-page browser screenshots you can mark up
The video editor only cuts, and there's no Android or Linux app.
- 2
Paid plans start at $5 a month
As its pricing page puts it: $5 per month, billed annually ($60); $6 billed monthly.
- 3
There is a free plan
Up to 100 screenshots and 20 recordings in the cloud, 720p, basic annotation tools and a 3-day trash. Local saves are unlimited, with local recordings capped at 5 minutes each.
- 4
It runs on 4 platforms
Web, macOS, Windows and iOS, with a browser extension too.
- 5
Full-page and region screenshots
Captures the visible part of a page, the entire scrolling page, a selected area or a window, and saves the result as PNG, JPG or PDF.
- 6
Screenshot annotation
Marks up a capture with arrows, rectangles, text, highlights, callouts and numbered steps, and blurs private details. The Free plan has the basic tools only.
- 7
Screen and camera recording
Records the screen together with the camera, up to 6 hours per recording, in WebM or MP4. Resolution is up to 720p on Free and Basic and up to 4K on Professional.
- 8
A 2.6 GPA, above 28 of 52
That is against the other screen recording and video tools we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 9
Keep it
To replace Awesome Screenshot you would be making a video editor. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card
Best for full-page browser screenshots you can mark up
Awesome Screenshot is a browser extension for screenshots and screen recording: it grabs a whole scrolling page, lets you add arrows, text and blur, and hands you a share link. The middle plan is a trap, as Basic at $5 a month lifts only the screenshot limit and recordings stay at 20 in the cloud and 720p until Professional at $6. The video editor only cuts, and there's no Android or Linux app.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | B | Basic is $5 a month billed annually, at the low end of this category, and Professional is $6 for unlimited recordings, 4K and the integrations. Both sit under the $10 middle, and Basic adds nothing on the video side. |
| Free plan and trial | C | Free holds 100 screenshots and 20 recordings in the cloud at 720p. Local saves are unlimited, but a recording saved to your computer stops at 5 minutes, and 20 cloud videos goes quickly. |
| Features | C | Full-page, region and window captures saved as PNG, JPG or PDF, with arrows, callouts, numbered steps and blur, plus screen and camera recording up to 6 hours. The gap the listing shows is the video side: the editor only cuts and adds text and shapes, and there are no transcripts or captions. |
| Ease of use | B | No store rating on record, but there's nothing to set up: it lives in your browser toolbar. Click, capture, mark it up, copy the link. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Browser extensions, the web, Mac, Windows and iOS apps, with Google Drive, Dropbox and Box included and Slack, Trello, Asana, Jira and GitHub on Professional. No Android and no Linux. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Awesome Screenshot is for
- Fits if you mostly need full-page screenshots of websites with notes on them
- Works for occasional recorders who can stay inside 20 cloud recordings at 720p
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you're buying Basic for video, as it only lifts the screenshot limit and recordings stay at 20 and 720p
- Tight if you're on Free or Basic and save recordings to your computer, since each one stops at 5 minutes
- Too light for finished videos, because the editor only cuts and adds text and shapes, with no captions or transcripts
- Not for you if you're on Android or Linux, as no app is listed for either
- Watch out: the Slack, Jira, Asana, Trello and GitHub links need Professional, and SSO is only listed as coming soon
Good to know
Good for
- People who mainly need annotated full-page browser screenshots
- Occasional recorders who can stay within 20 cloud recordings
- Small teams sharing captures in a free workspace of up to 5 members
Worth knowing
- The Free plan keeps up to 100 screenshots and 20 recordings in the cloud, at up to 720p.
- Basic lifts only the screenshot limit; unlimited recordings, 4K and the Slack, Trello, Asana, Jira and GitHub integrations need Professional.
- On Free and Basic, recordings saved to the computer are limited to 5 minutes each.
- The site links browser extensions and Mac, Windows and iOS apps; no Android or Linux app is listed.

What you could not
- A video editor.
