Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.8

GPA, above 19 of the 26 other AI app builders we grade

Base44 builds apps and websites from plain-language prompts, generating the frontend, backend, database and user authentication together and hosting the result. Apps can be kept private, shared with a team or published to the web, and the source code can be exported through two-way GitHub sync on higher plans. Usage is metered in two kinds of monthly credits: message credits for AI building and integration credits for built-in services.

To get you started, here are 10 things to know about Base44, taken from its own pages and our grades.

The fiddly part is the money, with two separate credit meters running, one for AI messages and one for the built-in services.
From our grade for ease of use
  1. 1

Best for apps with the database, login and hosting built in

Base44 builds an app from a description: the screens, the database, the login and the hosting in one place.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at $16 a month

As its pricing page puts it: $16 per month, billed annually (Starter).

  3. 3

    There is a free plan

25 message credits and 100 integration credits a month, up to 5 apps, with authentication, database functionality and analytics included.

  4. 4

    It runs on 3 platforms

    Web, iOS and Android.

  5. 5

    Prompt-to-app building

Describe an app in plain language and Base44 generates the frontend, backend, database and login. A typical message uses roughly 0.5 to 4 credits depending on scope.

  6. 6

    Built-in backend and services

Every plan includes a database, authentication and user management, cloud storage and analytics. Built-in services such as email and image generation draw on integration credits.

  7. 7

    Visual editor

A responsive visual editor handles layout and text changes directly. Manual edits such as dragging elements or editing text do not use credits.

  8. 8

    Refunds: no set window

The terms say it twice over: fees are non-cancelable and non-refundable, renewal charges included. Pick the wrong plan and you can ask, but it is an exception that support decides, and a prorated refund minus processing fees if they say yes.

  9. 9

    A 2.8 GPA, above 19 of 26

That is against the other AI app builders we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

  10. 10

    Keep it

To replace Base44 you would be making a tool that builds and hosts other apps. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card

Best for apps with the database, login and hosting built in

Base44 builds an app from a description: the screens, the database, the login and the hosting in one place. Starter is $16 a month on yearly billing. But every AI message spends credits, the free plan stops at 25 message credits a month and 5 apps, and GitHub, model choice and app-store files need the $40 Builder plan.

ToolGPA report cardBase44Graded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyBStarter is $16 a month billed yearly, right inside the cheapest quarter of what builders here charge, and it buys 100 message credits, 2,000 integration credits, unlimited apps and your own domain. The gate to watch: GitHub sync, model choice, backend functions and app-store files all start at Builder, $40.
Free plan and trialCFree for good, with the database, login and analytics in from the start. But 25 message credits a month is thin when one message can eat up to 4 of them, so that's a handful of real changes, and you stop at 5 apps.
FeaturesBIt covers the whole job. Describe an app and you get the front end, back end, database and login together, hosted; a visual editor changes layout and text without spending credits; connectors cover Slack, Notion, Gmail and Salesforce; and Builder adds GitHub sync and the store files. Lovable does the same, so no A.
Ease of useBNo rating on record, but there's nothing to install or set up: you say what you want and it builds and hosts it, login and database included. The fiddly part is the money, with two separate credit meters running, one for AI messages and one for the built-in services.
Platforms and integrationsBWeb, with iPhone and Android apps for building on the move, but no desktop app, and that's what keeps it off an A. Connectors cover Salesforce, Notion, Slack, HubSpot, Gmail and Google Sheets, plus Zapier. On a phone you can't connect a domain or manage app security.
Grade point averageGood, out of 4.02.8

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Base44 is for

  • Fits if you can't code and need an internal tool, a portal or a back-office app
  • Works for students and teachers, who get half off Starter or Builder with a school email

Who it is not for

  • Tight if you're staying free, with 25 message credits a month, up to 4 per message, and 5 apps
  • Pricey if you want your code in GitHub or the app-store files, because those start on the $40 Builder plan
  • Skip it if you hate meters, as AI building and built-in services each run on their own credits
  • Watch out: the listed prices assume a year upfront, and the pricing page says yearly billing is 20% cheaper than monthly
  • Not for you if you build on a phone, since connecting a domain and managing app security don't work there

Good to know

Good for

  • Non-developers building internal tools, portals or back-office apps
  • Builders who want database, login and hosting handled in one product
  • Students and teachers, who can verify a school email for half-price plans

Worth knowing

  • The Free plan is limited to 25 message credits a month and 5 apps.
  • GitHub integration, AI model selection and app-store files all start on the Builder plan.
  • Listed prices assume annual billing; the pricing page says yearly billing is 20% cheaper than monthly.
  • Connecting a domain and managing app security are not available when editing on a mobile device.

19/26

Other AI app builders it is graded above

Base44's GPA of 2.8 is higher than 19 of the 26 other AI app builders we grade, and level with 5.

It stands best on value for money (B, above 20 of 26) and worst on free plan and trial (C, above 1).

Its paid plans start at $16 a month, against a middle price of $19 for the category: 6 of the 26 others that charge start lower.

On features, ease of use and platforms it scores 3.0 out of 4. 1 tool scores higher and costs less.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Base44 you would be making a tool that builds and hosts other apps. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 2.8 is higher than 19 of the 26 other AI app builders we grade. It costs $192 a year.

What you could not

  • A tool that builds and hosts other apps.
  • A builder that other people can use without writing code.
  • A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
  • It plugs into other products, Salesforce, Notion and Slack among them.
  • AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
  • Sharing with other people, which means accounts and invitations.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. Base44’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.

Part 05 · Refunds

Getting your money back, getting out, and getting help

CSupport

What happens once you have paid: whether you can get your money back, how to leave, and how to reach a person when something goes wrong. Each is graded from Base44’s own terms and help pages.

Refunds and cancelling

CGrade

Ordinary · checked Oct 18, 2026

The terms say it twice over: fees are non-cancelable and non-refundable, renewal charges included. Pick the wrong plan and you can ask, but it is an exception that support decides, and a prorated refund minus processing fees if they say yes. The exit itself is clean: you cancel in the settings, keep everything until the period ends, and can undo it before then. No refunds plus a self-serve door is the ordinary deal, so a C.

Refund window
No set window
How you cancel
Yourself, in settings
Getting your money back

The terms of service say that unless applicable law requires otherwise the fees are non-cancelable and non-refundable, and that renewal charges are non-cancelable and non-refundable once a renewal term begins. The billing FAQ adds that if you bought the wrong plan or billing cycle you can ask support, which reviews each case and, if an exception is approved, gives a prorated refund minus processing fees.

Stated on base44.com
How to cancel Base44

You cancel from the workspace settings, under Plan & Subscriptions, using the More actions icon on the plan's row. The terms give the same two routes: turn auto-renewal off in the account settings, or ask support to end it, with termination taking effect at the end of the current term. A workspace on a custom Enterprise contract has no More actions icon and has to ask the Base44 team.

  1. Click your workspace name at the bottom left of your account
  2. Click Settings
  3. Under General, click Plan & Subscriptions
  4. In the Subscriptions table, click the More actions icon on your plan's row
  5. Click Cancel plan
  6. Follow the prompts to confirm
  7. If a plan change such as a downgrade is already scheduled, click Cancel Change first
Stated on docs.base44.com
What you keep afterwards

You keep full access until the end of the billing period, then the workspace drops to the free plan, which limits you to 5 apps. If you have more than 5, you pick which 5 stay published and the rest are unpublished; paid-only features also stop. Superagents keep running but any Superagent phone number is released. Until the period ends, Reactivate Plan undoes the cancellation.

Stated on docs.base44.com
Renewals

The terms say a subscription renews automatically at the end of each term unless auto-renewal is turned off, and that the payment method is charged with or without prior notice unless the law requires one. Base44 says it may attempt the charge up to three weeks early, that renewals are at the then-current price without introductory discounts, and that for yearly plans it will endeavour to give notice where required.

Stated on base44.com

In your favour

  • Cancelling is a few clicks in your own workspace settings, with nobody to write to.
  • You keep the plan in full until the end of the period you have paid for.
  • Reactivate Plan puts the subscription back at any point before the cancellation takes effect.
  • Your apps stay in the account on the free plan, though only 5 of them stay published.

Watch out for

  • The terms say fees and renewal charges alike are non-cancelable and non-refundable.
  • A refund for the wrong plan is an exception support decides, and it is prorated minus processing fees.
  • Renewals can be charged up to three weeks early, at the current price with introductory discounts dropped.
  • Bought it in the App Store or on Google Play? Apple or Google handles the cancelling and the refund.

Customer support

CGrade

Ordinary · checked Oct 18, 2026

Everyone gets the same three things: a large documentation site with an AI assistant on every page, a ticket you can file and track, and a Discord where the team turns up alongside other builders. Nothing is promised about the answer. Base44 says plainly that response times vary with ticket volume, there are no hours anywhere, and priority support only starts on the Elite plan. That is the ordinary deal, and a C.

Ways to get help

  • Contact form or ticket

A support ticket filed from the account, with your tickets listed under My Support Tickets so you can track or update them. Base44 asks for the app link, what you expected, what happened and a screenshot, and asks you not to open duplicates.

    Stated on docs.base44.com
  • Account manager

The billing page says the Enterprise plan comes with a dedicated account manager and solution engineer, plus onboarding, training and security review support. Enterprise pricing is arranged with the sales team.

    Stated on docs.base44.com
  • Help centre

Documentation covering account and billing, apps, integrations, workspaces, Superagents and the developer SDK, open to anyone, with an Ask a question AI assistant on every page whose answers the site says may contain mistakes.

    Stated on docs.base44.com
  • Community or forum

A Discord server that the support page describes as real-time help from the community and the Base44 team, and the place it sends you for help with building your own app, which tickets do not cover.

    Stated on docs.base44.com

What depends on your plan

The billing page lists priority support as a feature of the Elite and Business plans, and a dedicated account manager and solution engineer on Enterprise. No faster route is listed for Free, Starter, Builder or Pro. Base44 also says its human support team works in English only and may ask you to rewrite a ticket sent in another language.

Stated on docs.base44.com

In your favour

  • Free users can file a ticket and track it, not just read the documentation.
  • The documentation is unusually detailed on billing, with the clicks for cancelling spelled out.
  • Discord puts you in front of the team as well as other builders, which tickets do not cover for app-building help.

Watch out for

  • Base44 says response times vary with ticket volume, and states no target at all.
  • No page gives support hours, so there is no telling when anyone is reading.
  • Priority support starts at the Elite plan: the cheaper paid plans queue with the free ones.
  • Human support is in English only, and a ticket in another language may be sent back to rewrite.

What these two grades rest on. Read on 18 October 2026: Base44's terms of service, its documentation on billing and plans (which covers cancelling, downgrading and App Store and Google Play purchases) and its page on contacting support, plus the pricing page. Nobody here cancelled a plan or contacted its support. They are graded apart from the five that make the GPA. How we grade refunds and support.
