Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

3.0

GPA, above 51 of the 65 other focus apps we grade

Be Focused is a Pomodoro-style timer for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac that splits work on each task into timed intervals separated by short and long breaks. Tasks, interval lengths and daily targets are adjustable, and reports show progress by day, week or a custom period. The apps are free with ads, and Pro adds sync between devices, tags and CSV export.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Be Focused, taken from its own pages and our grades.

Add a task, press start, take the break when it tells you to.

The report card

Best for a Pomodoro timer with a task list on Apple devices

Be Focused is a Pomodoro timer with a task list for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch. The free version shows ads, sync between devices and CSV export need Pro at $19.99 a year, there are two separate ways to buy Pro at different prices, and there's nothing for Windows or Android.

ToolGPA report cardBe FocusedGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyAPro is $19.99 a year, about $1.67 a month, where the cheapest quarter of focus tools starts at $2.99 and the middle is $3.99. Lifetime is $39.99 once, less than a year of that middle, and covers iPhone, iPad and Mac. Watch which you buy: the separate Pro app is $19.99 per platform.
Free plan and trialBThe timer, tasks, custom intervals and reports are all free on every Apple device, so one person could genuinely stay here. The price is banners and ads in a focus app, and no sync, tags or CSV export until you pay.
FeaturesCIt does its one thing fully: work rounds and breaks you set yourself, a daily target, tasks with the rounds they'll need, and reports by day, week or any period. That's a small job next to what this category covers, and sync between your own devices is a paid extra.
Ease of useA4.7 from about 4,300 App Store ratings, the top band in this category. Add a task, press start, take the break when it tells you to. Nobody needs a tutorial for this.
Platforms and integrationsCOne family of devices: iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac, with Apple's Shortcuts as the only thing it joins up with. No Windows, Android or web version is listed.
Grade point averageVery good, out of 4.03.0

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Be Focused is for

  • Fits if you want a timer that knows which task you're on
  • Works for people on Apple devices who'd rather pay once, as Lifetime Pro is $39.99

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if you use Windows or Android, as it's Apple devices only
  • Not for you if ads in a focus app would wind you up and you won't pay to lose them
  • Tight if you want your tasks on phone and Mac for free, because sync is Pro
  • Watch out: the separate Be Focused Pro app is $19.99 per platform, so iPhone and Mac together cost $39.98
  • Watch out: the Focus Matrix link needs Focus Matrix Pro, sold separately, and the yearly trial is 7 days

Good to know

Good for

  • Apple users who want a Pomodoro timer tied to a task list
  • People who prefer a one-time purchase to a subscription
  • Automating focus sessions with the Shortcuts app

Worth knowing

  • Apple platforms only: iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac. No Windows, Android or web version is listed.
  • The free apps show banners and ads, and sync, tags and filters, and CSV export need Pro.
  • There are two ways to pay: Pro inside the free app, or the separate Be Focused Pro app at $19.99 per platform.
  • The Focus Matrix integration needs the Pro version of Focus Matrix, which is sold separately.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

The plain part of Be Focused you could make: Pomodoro timer and tasks. What surrounds it you could not. The 3 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.

It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 3.0 is higher than 51 of the 65 other focus apps we grade. It costs $19.99 a year.

What you could make

  • Pomodoro timer and tasks: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • Blocking that reaches every browser and app and is hard to switch off.
  • Apps for macOS and iOS that stay in step with each other.
  • Hooks into the device itself: an Apple Watch app and Shortcuts.

What this rests on. Be Focused’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
