Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.4

GPA, above 18 of the 65 other focus apps we grade

BePresent is a screen time app for iPhone and Android that uses game mechanics to keep you off your phone. It combines timed app-blocking sessions with daily screen time goals, streaks, points, weekly leaderboards and group sessions with friends. Points earned by staying under your limits can be redeemed for real-life rewards from partner brands.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about BePresent, taken from its own pages and our grades.

  1. 1

Best for cutting screen time as a game with friends

It's phones only, its website shows no prices, the store lists several conflicting ones, and it never says which features are kept for Pro.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at $2.08 a month when paid by the year

As its pricing page puts it: $3.99 / month or $24.99 / year (US App Store; several amounts listed).

  3. 3

    There is a free plan

Free to download, with a free version alongside BePresent Pro. The vendor does not publish which features need Pro.

  4. 4

    It runs on 2 platforms

    iOS and Android.

  5. 5

    Present Sessions

Timed app-blocking sessions for study or time away from the phone, run alone or as a Group Session with friends. Beast Mode is the stricter version.

  6. 6

    Daily goals and streaks

Set a daily screen time limit and keep a streak by staying under it. A streak can be backed with a monetary stake that is lost if you go over.

  7. 7

    Leaderboards and challenges

Weekly leaderboards with tiers, and challenges against friends, turn lower screen time into a competition.

  8. 8

    A 2.4 GPA, above 18 of 65

That is against the other focus apps we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

  9. 9

    Your call

A focus timer at its plainest counts down 25 minutes and keeps a log.

The report card

Best for cutting screen time as a game with friends

BePresent turns staying off your phone into a game, with streaks, weekly leaderboards against friends and points you swap for rewards, and it averages 4.8 from about 66,000 App Store ratings. It's phones only, its website shows no prices, the store lists several conflicting ones, and it never says which features are kept for Pro.

ToolGPA report cardBePresentGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyCNothing is priced on BePresent's own site. The US App Store shows a $3.99 month and a $24.99 year, which would sit low for this category, but also yearly purchases at $29.99 and $59.99 and a $99.99 family item with no billing period, and no word on which you'd be offered.
Free plan and trialCThe download is free and the vendor talks about a free version, but nowhere says what it holds back for Pro, so you find the wall by walking into it. The trials on the store run from 1 week to 30 days.
FeaturesCThe basics of a screen time app with a game bolted on: timed Present Sessions, a stricter Beast Mode, daily limits, streaks, leaderboards, group sessions and partner rewards. It leans on motivation rather than hard limits, and the listing never says which of it the free version gets.
Ease of useA4.84 from about 66,000 App Store ratings, with more than 60,000 of them five stars, which is the highest score in this category at that volume.
Platforms and integrationsCPhones only: iPhone and Android, with no iPad, Mac, Windows or web version listed and nothing it connects to. Scroll on a laptop and it can't help you.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.4

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who BePresent is for

  • Fits if streaks and leaderboards get you moving more than a locked screen does
  • Works for a few friends or a family who want to cut screen time together

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if you want the price in writing first, as its website lists none
  • Not for you if you scroll on an iPad or a laptop, which it doesn't cover
  • Not for you if money on the line stresses you out, since a staked streak costs you when you slip
  • Watch out: the US App Store lists yearly plans at $24.99, $29.99 and $59.99, with no word on which you'll get
  • Watch out: BePresent never says what the free version leaves out, and it leans on motivation more than hard blocks

Good to know

Good for

  • People who respond to streaks, points and leaderboards more than to hard limits
  • Friends or families who want to cut screen time together
  • Phone users who want timed app-blocking sessions for study or evenings out

Worth knowing

  • BePresent publishes no prices on its website; the US App Store lists subscriptions at several different amounts.
  • The vendor does not say which features are limited to BePresent Pro.
  • It runs on iPhone and Android phones only; no iPad, Mac, Windows or web version is listed.
  • A streak backed with a monetary stake costs you that stake if you exceed your screen time limit.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Your call

A focus timer at its plainest counts down 25 minutes and keeps a log.

You could make the core of BePresent for yourself: time tracking. What you would give up is listed below. Whether that is worth the price is your call. At $24.99 a year it costs less than the weekend it would take to replace, which is the argument for keeping it.

What you could make

  • Time tracking: an app builder makes this well.

What you could not

  • Blocking that reaches every browser and app and is hard to switch off.
  • A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.

What this rests on. BePresent’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
