Carepatron is practice management software for therapists, allied health, medical and wellness practitioners. It covers online booking, telehealth video, clinical notes with an AI scribe, treatment plans, a client portal, invoicing and insurance claims. A free plan has unlimited clients, and paid plans are charged per practitioner.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Carepatron, taken from its own pages and our grades.
Booking pages, intake forms, note templates and workflows all need setting up, and the onboarding manager is only on Advanced.

The report card
Best for solo practitioners who want to start free
Carepatron has a free plan with unlimited clients, telehealth, payments and an AI scribe, capped at 100 appointments a month. There are no reminders or calendar sync until Plus at $31 a user, claims cost per use and aren't on the free plan, and roles, white labeling and the API need Advanced.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | Plus is $31 a user a month on yearly billing, $39 monthly, between this category's cheaper quarter ($25) and its middle ($39). Every practitioner is a paid seat, and claims, extra texts and ePrescribing cost more on top. |
| Free plan and trial | B | The free plan keeps unlimited clients, telehealth, the client portal, online payments and the AI scribe, so one person could run a small practice on it. It stops at 100 appointments a month and 1 GB of storage, with no reminders or calendar sync. |
| Features | B | Online booking, an AI scribe, note templates, treatment plans, telehealth, invoicing, claims with ERA posting, a client portal and custom workflows. Nothing in the listing is missing from the job; the limits are which plan you're on. |
| Ease of use | C | No App Store rating on record. Booking pages, intake forms, note templates and workflows all need setting up, and the onboarding manager is only on Advanced. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web, iPhone and Android, with DoseSpot and Google Analytics, and an API on Advanced. No desktop app, and the integration list is short. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Carepatron is for
- Fits if you're a solo practitioner who wants to start on a free plan with unlimited clients
- Works for mixed practices of therapists, allied health and wellness staff under one account
Who it is not for
- Tight if you're staying free: 100 appointments a month, 1 GB of storage, and no reminders or calendar sync
- Watch out: claims start at 25¢ each and insurance checks cost 15¢, and neither is on the free plan
- Pricey if you grow, as every practitioner is a paid seat and ePrescribing through DoseSpot is $39 a month per user
- Not for you if you need roles and permissions, white labeling or the API, which are only on Advanced at $39 a user
- Watch out: Plus includes 150 texts a month per user, and each one past that costs 5¢

Part 04 · Standing
Where it stands
Its grades against its category, and whether to keep it or make your own
10/12
Other therapy and clinic software it is graded above
Carepatron's GPA of 2.6 is higher than 10 of the 12 other therapy and clinic software we grade, and level with 1.
It stands best on free plan and trial (B, above 12 of 12) and worst on ease of use (C, above 0).
Its paid plans start at $31 a month for each person, against a middle price of $39 for the category: 4 of the 10 others that charge start lower.
On features, ease of use and platforms it scores 2.7 out of 4. Nothing scores higher for less, though at least one tool matches that score at a lower price.

Price against what you get

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Carepatron you would be making video sessions that meet health privacy rules. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 2.6 is higher than 10 of the 12 other therapy and clinic software we grade. It costs $372 a year.
What you could make
- Clinical notes and appointment booking: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- Video sessions that meet health privacy rules.
- Insurance claims sent to payers through a clearinghouse.
- Speech turned into text you can trust.
- A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
- It is priced for each person, which means accounts and billing for a team.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
- What a company asks for before it lets staff use something: HIPAA.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. Carepatron’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
