Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.4

GPA, above 8 of the 12 other therapy and clinic software we grade

Cliniko is practice management software for clinics and allied health practitioners in many countries. It covers the appointment calendar and online bookings, telehealth, customizable treatment notes and patient forms, invoicing, payments and stock. Every feature is on every plan; the price depends only on how many practitioners the clinic has.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Cliniko, taken from its own pages and our grades.

Note templates, forms and SMS credits need setting up, and claims or AI notes mean picking and linking a connected app.

The report card

Best for allied health clinics that also run classes

Cliniko gives every clinic every feature, priced only by how many practitioners it has, from $45 a month for one. It has no insurance claims or AI scribe of its own, no mobile apps, and texts cost 10¢ each, so a US therapy practice ends up leaning on connected apps that charge their own fees.

ToolGPA report cardClinikoGraded Oct 24, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyB$95 a month covers two to five practitioners, so $19 each for a clinic of five, inside this category's cheaper quarter ($25). One practitioner pays $45, above the middle ($39), and the bands jump: six pay the same $145 as eight.
Free plan and trialCA 30-day trial with no payment details. Telehealth stays locked until you put a card on file, though, and there's no free plan unless you're a charity or a school.
FeaturesCCalendar, online bookings, classes, telehealth, configurable notes with body charts, forms, invoicing, stock and a public API. The listing's own gap keeps it here: no insurance claim filing or AI scribe of its own, only through third-party apps.
Ease of useCNo App Store rating on record. Note templates, forms and SMS credits need setting up, and claims or AI notes mean picking and linking a connected app.
Platforms and integrationsBWeb, with a public API, Xero sync and a directory of 94 connected apps. There are no native mobile apps; the calendar and notes are pages in a phone's browser.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.4

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Cliniko is for

  • Fits if you run an allied health clinic with classes such as pilates as well as one-on-one visits
  • Works for clinics with lots of reception and admin staff, since only practitioners are charged

Who it is not for

  • Not for you if you bill US insurance from inside the app, as claims come only through third-party apps
  • Skip it if you want AI notes built in or a native phone app; neither is on Cliniko's own feature pages
  • Watch out: prices step up in bands, so a clinic of 6 pays $145 a month, the same as one of 8
  • Watch out: SMS reminders use prepaid credits at 10¢ a message, and connected apps may charge their own fees
  • Watch out: telehealth stays locked during the trial until you add a card

Good to know

Good for

  • Allied health clinics that run classes as well as one-on-one visits
  • Clinics with many reception and admin staff, who are not charged
  • Practices that want every feature without plan tiers

Worth knowing

  • Prices step up in bands: a clinic with 6 practitioners pays $145 a month, the same as one with 8.
  • SMS reminders use prepaid credits at 10¢ per message; connected third-party apps may charge their own fees.
  • Cliniko's feature pages list no insurance claim filing or AI scribe of its own; those come from third-party connected apps.
  • There are no native mobile apps; the calendar and notes are mobile-friendly pages in the browser.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Cliniko you would be making video sessions that meet health privacy rules. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 2.4 is higher than 8 of the 12 other therapy and clinic software we grade. It costs $540 a year.

What you could make

  • Appointment booking, clinical notes, class booking and invoicing: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • Video sessions that meet health privacy rules.
  • It plugs into other products, Xero among them, and has an API.

What this rests on. Cliniko’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
