Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.2
GPA, above 3 of the 79 other project management tools we grade
Codecks is a project management tool made by game developers for game studios. Work is organized as cards in decks and projects, planned against milestones and runs, and a studio can define a production pipeline once and apply it to every new asset. It also collects bug reports and ideas from a game's community through a Discord bot and in-engine plugins. Prices are listed in euros.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Codecks, taken from its own pages and our grades.
No App Store rating on record, and defining a studio's production pipeline is real set-up work before the first card moves.
- 1
Best for game studios running a production pipeline
If you don't make games, most of that is wasted on you.
- 2
Paid plans start at about $6.72 a month for each person
As its pricing page puts it: €6 per user / month, billed yearly (€7 billed monthly).
- 3
There is a free plan
Up to 5 users and 3 projects with 1 GB of shared storage and 10 MB per file. No observers, time tracking, due dates or dependencies.
- 4
It runs on Web

- 5
Cards, decks and projects
Tasks are cards grouped into decks and projects, each with a workflow state, effort, priority, tags and an owner. Doc cards hold design documentation beside the tasks.
- 6
Hero Cards and Journeys
Define a production pipeline once, with steps, estimates and checklists, and apply it automatically whenever a new asset is created.
- 7
Milestones and Runs
Plan work against milestones and time-boxed runs. On Pro, Beast Mode marks cards that keep rolling from sprint to sprint without being finished.

The report card
Best for game studios running a production pipeline
Codecks is project management made by game developers for game studios: tasks are cards in decks, a production pipeline applies to every new asset, and a Discord bot turns players' bug reports into cards. If you don't make games, most of that is wasted on you. Due dates, time tracking and dependencies need Pro at €9 a user a month, prices are in euros, and it runs only in a browser.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | Plus is €6 a user a month billed yearly, or €7 monthly, which is the ordinary band for project tools here, and read-only Observers come free. Due dates, time tracking and dependencies, which most rivals include, need Pro at €9, and Enterprise is €15 with a 20-user minimum. |
| Free plan and trial | C | Free takes up to 5 users and 3 projects with cards, decks, milestones, runs and the Discord bot, then the caps bite: 1 GB of storage between the whole team, 10 MB a file, and no due dates, time tracking or dependencies. |
| Features | C | Game production: Hero Cards apply a pipeline of steps and checklists to every new asset, milestones and runs handle the planning, and Decky turns players' Discord reports into cards. That's a narrower job than this category's, and due dates and dependencies sit on Pro. |
| Ease of use | C | No App Store rating on record, and defining a studio's production pipeline is real set-up work before the first card moves. Once it's done, it applies itself to each new asset, which is the point of it. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | A web app, and that's the only place it runs. The integrations are aimed squarely at studios, mind: Discord, Slack, Steam, GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Unity and Unreal, plus a public API. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Codecks is for
- Fits if you're a game studio and want the same production pipeline applied to every asset
- Works for indie teams of up to 5 on the free plan, with 3 projects
Who it is not for
- Not for you if you don't make games, because the whole thing is shaped around studios
- Tight if you're staying free and need deadlines, as due dates, time tracking and dependencies need Pro at €9 a user
- Skip it if you're a small team wanting to self-host, since that's Enterprise only with a minimum of 20 users
- Tight if you share big files on the free plan: 1 GB for the whole team and 10 MB a file
- Watch out: prices are in euros, and it runs only in a web browser, with no desktop or phone app
Good to know
Good for
- Game studios that want a production pipeline modeled for each asset
- Small indie teams, since the free plan covers up to 5 users
- Studios collecting bug reports and ideas from a Discord community
Worth knowing
- Prices are listed in euros, both on the pricing page and in the vendor's manual.
- The Free plan stops at 5 users, 3 projects and 1 GB of shared storage.
- Time tracking, due dates, dependencies, guardians and capacity tracking need the Pro plan.
- Self-hosting is offered only on Enterprise, which has a 20-user minimum.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
The plain part of Codecks you could make: tasks, time tracking and reports. What surrounds it you could not. The 2 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 60 of the 79 other project management tools grade higher. It costs $80.68 a year.
What you could make
- Tasks, time tracking and reports: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- It is priced for each person, which means accounts and billing for a team.
- It plugs into other products, Discord, Slack and Steam among them, and has an API.
What this rests on. Codecks’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
