Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.6
GPA, above 2 of the 17 other password managers we grade
Dashlane is a password manager that stores and autofills passwords and passkeys and warns when a credential is weak, reused or exposed. Its personal Premium plan adds AI-based scam and phishing protection, Dark Web Monitoring and a VPN, and a Friends & Family plan covers 10 accounts. For companies, Dashlane sells separate Omnix plans that combine password management with SSO, policies and detection of risky employee credentials.
To get you started, here are 10 things to know about Dashlane, taken from its own pages and our grades.
It fills your logins in without typing and syncs across as many devices as you like on Premium.

The report card
Best for a password manager with a VPN thrown in
Dashlane is a password manager that adds scam warnings in your browser, Dark Web Monitoring and a VPN. There's no free plan, only a 14-day trial, and no desktop app. Premium is $5.42 a month billed yearly, against $2.99 for the middle of this category, and on Friends & Family only the plan manager gets the VPN.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | D | $5.42 a month, billed annually, when the dearest tenth of this category starts at $4.99 and the middle plan is $2.99. The VPN and scam protection are what you're paying for. Friends & Family is lower per head: 10 accounts for $8.13 a month. |
| Free plan and trial | D | Nothing free to keep. The personal pricing page lists only a 14-day trial of Premium, and doesn't say whether it wants a card. Bitwarden, Proton Pass, Apple and Google all give you a password manager for good. |
| Features | A | It does the whole job and brings things no rival here includes: unlimited passwords and passkeys with autofill, alerts for weak or leaked passwords, Dark Web Monitoring, AI scam protection that flags phishing pages before you type, a VPN and 1GB of encrypted storage. |
| Ease of use | A | 4.79 from about 107,000 App Store ratings, which is near the top of this category. It fills your logins in without typing and syncs across as many devices as you like on Premium. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web, iPhone, Android and a browser extension, and no desktop app at all, which is what keeps it off our top mark. The Omnix business plans do plug into Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, Google Workspace and Duo. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

- Pricey if all you need is passwords filled in, at $5.42 a month against a typical $2.99
- Not for you if you want an app on your desktop, because it's the browser or your phone
- Watch out: on Friends & Family only the plan manager gets the VPN, and personal plans are billed yearly

Part 04 · Standing
Where it stands
Its grades against its category, and whether to keep it or make your own
2/17
Other password managers it is graded above
Dashlane's GPA of 2.6 is higher than 2 of the 17 other password managers we grade, and level with 1.
It stands best on features (A, above 15 of 17) and worst on value for money (D, above 0).
Its paid plans start at $5.42 a month, against a middle price of $2.59 for the category: 13 of the 13 others that charge start lower.
On features, ease of use and platforms it scores 3.7 out of 4. 1 tool scores higher and costs less.
Each grade against the category
Every bar is all 18 password managers we grade, cut by the letter each got. Dashlane’s own letter is outlined.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Dashlane you would be making a password vault, the last thing anyone should make for themselves. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 14 of the 17 other password managers grade higher. It costs $65.04 a year.
What you could not
- A password vault, the last thing anyone should make for themselves.
- Passkeys, which rest on security you cannot improvise.
- A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
- It plugs into other products, Okta, Microsoft Entra ID and Google Workspace among them.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
- What a company asks for before it lets staff use something: single sign-on and SCIM.
- The depth: we grade its features A, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. Dashlane’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
Part 05 · Refunds
After you pay
Getting your money back, getting out, and getting help
What happens once you have paid: whether you can get your money back, how to leave, and how to reach a person when something goes wrong. Each is graded from Dashlane’s own terms and help pages.
Refunds and cancelling
Good · checked Oct 18, 2026
Pay for a year and you have 30 days to change your mind, counted from the start of the subscription or from a renewal, and the refund is a button in the web app rather than an email to anyone. Dashlane also promises to tell you 30 days before a renewal, which almost nobody does. The one thing keeping it off an A is the terms' line that monthly subscriptions are not eligible for a refund at all.
- Refund window
- 30 days
- How you cancel
- Yourself, in settings
- Getting your money back
Dashlane's terms say the full fee for an annual subscription is refunded if you request a refund within 30 days of the subscription start or renewal, and that monthly subscriptions, where available, are not eligible. The help article words it more loosely as a full refund when you cancel within 30 days of buying; we have gone with the terms. Once you cancel in the web app a Request refund link appears.
Stated on dashlane.com- How to cancel Dashlane
A subscription bought on Dashlane's website with a credit card is cancelled in the web app, from the Vault menu's Subscription page, and Dashlane notes the option appears only in a computer browser, not in the mobile or macOS apps. One bought through Google Play, the App Store or PayPal is cancelled with that company instead. Cancelling turns off auto-renewal rather than cutting access off.
- Open Dashlane in a computer browser and open the Vault menu at the top left
- Select Subscription
- On the Subscription page, select Cancel your subscription in the right panel
- On the next page, select Continue cancellation
- Before leaving the page, select Request refund in the right panel if you want one
- What you keep afterwards
Dashlane says you keep the plan until the current billing period ends and keep everything saved in the account. Once the subscription ends you can still log in, but passwords become available for export only: you cannot add, edit, copy or view them until you buy a plan again or export them to a CSV file. Deleting the account removes all the data from Dashlane.
Stated on support.dashlane.com- Renewals
The terms say a subscription renews automatically for a period of the same length at the rates then in effect unless you cancel, and that Dashlane will inform you at least 30 days before the renewal date. If a payment fails it will ask you to update the card, and may suspend or end access if nothing arrives within 15 days of the renewal.
Stated on dashlane.com
In your favour
- Thirty days on an annual plan, counted from a renewal as well as from the first purchase.
- Dashlane says it will tell you at least 30 days before a renewal, which hardly any subscription does.
- The refund is a Request refund button in the web app, not an email to a support queue.
- You keep every saved item after cancelling and can export your passwords to a CSV file.
Watch out for
- The terms say monthly subscriptions are not eligible for a refund at all.
- Once the plan ends your passwords are export-only: no adding, editing, copying or viewing them.
- The cancel and refund options only appear in a computer browser, not the mobile or macOS apps.
- Bought it through Apple, Google or PayPal? You cancel and claim the refund with them, not Dashlane.
Customer support
Excellent · checked Oct 18, 2026
Dashlane spells out exactly what you get, which is rare. A chatbot takes your question first, and if you are on an active plan or trial it will put you through to an agent, in English, French, German or Spanish, weekdays from 6am to 6pm Eastern. Outside those hours the bot passes your issue on and an agent emails you back. Add a large, well-sorted help centre and that is an A.
Ways to get help
Live chat
A chatbot you open from the help centre, give your login email and describe the issue to. Dashlane says it can connect you with an agent when necessary if you are on an active plan or trial, and that outside chat hours it passes the issue to support for an agent to email you.
Stated on support.dashlane.comPhone
Dashlane says phone support is available only to admins of organizations on particular plans, and only through the Admin Console. It is not offered on personal plans.
Stated on support.dashlane.comHelp centre
A searchable help centre, open without signing in and offered in several languages, with sections on setting up, managing a subscription and billing, cancelling a plan, deleting an account, exporting data and fixing problems.
Stated on support.dashlane.com
Not listed on Dashlane’s pages: email, contact form or ticket.
- When people answer
Dashlane says you can chat with an agent in English, French, German or Spanish from Monday to Friday, 6am to 6pm Eastern time. At other times the chatbot sends your issue to support and an agent gets back to you by email.
Stated on support.dashlane.com- How fast it says it replies
Its pages do not say.
- What depends on your plan
Dashlane says the chatbot can connect you with an agent if you are on an active plan or trial, and that otherwise agent access is only available in specific circumstances. Phone support is kept for admins of organizations on particular plans, through the Admin Console.
Stated on support.dashlane.com
In your favour
- Anyone on an active plan or trial can be put through to a live agent by the chatbot.
- Agents chat in four languages, not only English.
- The chat hours are published: weekdays, 6am to 6pm Eastern.
- Out of hours the bot hands your issue on and an agent emails you rather than leaving it.
Watch out for
- A chatbot goes first and decides whether an agent is needed.
- Chat hours are weekdays only, which is the middle of the night in much of the world.
- Once your plan lapses, Dashlane says agent access is only for specific circumstances.
- No page states how long an emailed reply takes when the chat is closed.
What these two grades rest on. Read on 18 October 2026: Dashlane's terms of service with their payment, renewal and cancellation sections, and its help centre articles on managing a subscription and billing, cancelling, getting a refund, deleting an account, and how to get help with personal plans. Its help centre turned our plain reader away, so these were read in a browser. Nobody here cancelled a plan or contacted its support. They are graded apart from the five that make the GPA.
