Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.6
GPA, above 30 of the 74 other calendar and scheduling apps we grade
DigiCal is a calendar app for Android from Digibites, a small software company in Rotterdam. It shows the calendars synced to the device, such as Google Calendar, Outlook.com and Exchange, in seven views, and adds home screen widgets, a built-in weather forecast and a catalog of holiday, sports and TV calendars to subscribe to. The app is free with ads; DigiCal+ is a one-time purchase that removes them and unlocks the year view, two month widgets and more customization.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about DigiCal, taken from its own pages and our grades.
No rating on record, as it isn't on iPhone, but there's nothing to set up: it shows whatever calendars Android already syncs.

The report card
Best for an Android calendar with the weather built in
DigiCal is an Android calendar that puts a weather forecast next to your appointments, with six views and four widgets free with ads. DigiCal+ clears the ads and adds the year view and month widgets for $5.49 once, and the 14-day forecast is a separate €2.50 a year. It's Android only, has no tasks or typed natural-language entry, and Google Play lists unnamed in-app items from $1.09 to $5.49.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | A | DigiCal+ is $5.49 once on Google Play, against a $6 a month middle in this category. It clears the ads and adds the year view, two month widgets and more colors. The 14-day forecast is separate, at €2.50 a year on the maker's site. |
| Free plan and trial | B | Free gets agenda, day, week, week agenda, month and text month views, four widget types and a 3-day forecast, synced with whatever calendars are on your phone. It shows ads, and the year view and the month widgets are held back. |
| Features | C | The Android calendar basics: seven views including a year heat map, six widget types, weather in the calendar, holidays for 100-plus countries and sports or TV fixtures to subscribe to. The gaps: no tasks, no plain-language entry, and the syncing is Android's rather than its own. |
| Ease of use | B | No rating on record, as it isn't on iPhone, but there's nothing to set up: it shows whatever calendars Android already syncs. Tap an event and an action bar offers move, copy, edit or delete. |
| Platforms and integrations | D | One operating system: Android, with no iOS, desktop or web version listed. It reads Google Calendar, Outlook.com and Exchange, but only through Android's own sync. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who DigiCal is for
- Fits if you're on Android and want the weather forecast next to your appointments
- Works for following a team's fixtures or public holidays inside your own schedule
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you also use an iPhone or a computer, because it's Android only
- Not for you if you want to-dos in your calendar, as no tasks feature is listed
- Tight if you're staying free: it shows ads, and the year view, month widgets and widget colors need DigiCal+
- Watch out: the 14-day forecast is a separate €2.50 yearly subscription, not part of the $5.49 DigiCal+
- Watch out: Google Play lists unnamed in-app items from $1.09 to $5.49, and calendar subscriptions have no published price
Good to know

- Google Play shows in-app purchases of $1.09 to $5.49 per item without naming them, and the site gives no price for calendar subscriptions.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Your call
A calendar at its plainest is events on a grid.
You could make the core of DigiCal for yourself: calendar. What you would give up is listed below. Whether that is worth the price is your call. At $5.49, paid once, it costs less than the weekend it would take to replace, which is the argument for keeping it.
What you could make
- Calendar: an app builder makes this well.
What you could not
- A real app for Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
- Hooks into the device itself: widgets and the lock screen.
What this rests on. DigiCal’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
