Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.2
GPA, above 20 of the 83 other technical SEO tools we grade
Dr. Link Check is a web-based service from Germany that crawls the HTML and CSS of a site and checks every internal link, outbound link, image and other resource for errors. Paid plans also check links against malware and phishing blacklists, look for soft errors and invalid SSL certificates, and run checks on a schedule with email reports. Subscriptions are billed by the number of links per website.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Dr. Link Check, taken from its own pages and our grades.
You add each website to an account and set rules and schedules, and only one check runs at a time.

As its pricing page puts it: $13 per month for 10,000 links, billed monthly.
- 3
There is a free plan

The report card
Best for scheduled broken-link checks
Dr. Link Check crawls a site's HTML and CSS and checks every link, image and resource, with malware and phishing blacklists and scheduled email reports on paid plans. It doesn't run JavaScript, so links built by scripts are missed. And export and soft-error checks wait for Professional at $49 a month.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | B | Standard is $13 a month for 10,000 links on 5 websites, right at the top of this category's cheapest quarter, $13. Prices rise with the link limit, and Premium is $159 for 200,000. |
| Free plan and trial | C | The free Lite plan checks up to 1,500 links on each of 2 websites, by hand, broken links only, with no scheduling, rules or export. Every image and file counts toward the 1,500. |
| Features | C | Checks links, images and other resources for errors, slow responses and bad SSL, against Google Safe Browsing and PhishTank, on a schedule. It does link checking fully, but that's a smaller job, and the crawler doesn't run JavaScript. |
| Ease of use | C | No rating on record. You add each website to an account and set rules and schedules, and only one check runs at a time. |
| Platforms and integrations | C | Web only, with email reports and no API on record. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Dr. Link Check is for
- Fits if you want broken links found and emailed to you on a schedule
- Works for checking outbound links against malware and phishing lists
Who it is not for
- Skip it if your site builds links with JavaScript, which the crawler doesn't run
- Tight if you stay free, at 1,500 links on 2 sites, run by hand with no export
- Watch out: CSV or PDF export and soft-error checks start on Professional at $49, as do login checks, set up on request
- Pricey if your site has lots of resources, as prices rise per 10,000 links and every unique file counts
- Tight if you check several sites, as only one check runs at a time per account
Good to know
Good for
- Site owners who want broken links found and reported on a schedule
- Checking outbound links for malware and phishing sites
- Small sites whose links fit within the free 1,500
Worth knowing
- The crawler does not run JavaScript, so links created by scripts are missed unless you start from the XML sitemap.
- Prices rise with the link limit, billed per 10,000 links; each website counts unique resources, not just pages.
- Export to CSV or PDF and soft error checks start at Professional; checking behind a login is set up by request on Professional and up.
- Only one check runs at a time per account, and payment is by card or PayPal only.
