Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.2

GPA, above 4 of the 52 other screen recording and video tools we grade

Droplr captures screenshots and screen recordings and saves each one to a cloud account, copying a short link to the clipboard so it can be pasted into a chat or an email. Screenshots can be annotated and blurred, recordings can include a webcam and be saved as video or GIF, and any file of up to 10 GB can be uploaded and shared the same way. It is sold in three paid plans, for individuals, teams and enterprises.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Droplr, taken from its own pages and our grades.

No store rating on record, but there's nothing to wire up: capture something and the link is already on your clipboard, ready to paste.

The report card

Best for short links for screenshots and recordings

Droplr turns a screenshot or screen recording into a short link, already copied, to paste into Slack or an email. It's $6 a month billed annually, with unlimited recording length. There's no free plan, only a 3-day trial, editing stops at trimming, storage caps at 100 GB below Enterprise, and there's no phone or Linux app.

SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyCPro Plus is $6 a month billed annually ($72), or $8 month to month. That's a bit under this category's $10 middle but not in its lowest quarter, and it buys unlimited recording length, 10 GB uploads and 100 GB of storage.
Free plan and trialDNo free plan, and the trial is 3 days. That's shorter than a week, so line up something to record before you start the clock. No card needed, at least.
FeaturesCAnnotated screenshots with blur, screen recording with a webcam as video or GIF, uploads up to 10 GB and a link shortener. The gaps the listing shows: editing stops at trimming, and viewer analytics, SSO and AI auto-redaction are Enterprise only.
Ease of useBNo store rating on record, but there's nothing to wire up: capture something and the link is already on your clipboard, ready to paste.
Platforms and integrationsBMac, Windows and Chrome and Edge extensions, with hooks into Slack, Jira, Confluence, Gmail and Microsoft Teams. No phone app and no Linux app on the downloads page.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.2

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Droplr is for

  • Fits if you paste screenshots into Slack or Jira all day and want a link, not a file
  • Works for sending a file of up to 10 GB as a short link

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if you want a free plan, as there's only a 3-day trial
  • Not for you if you capture on a phone or on Linux, since there's no app for either
  • Tight if you keep everything, because storage stops at 100 GB and bandwidth at 500 GB a month below Enterprise
  • Too light for editing recordings, as it stops at trimming
  • Watch out: SSO, viewer analytics and AI redaction are Enterprise only, aimed at 16 or more members, at no listed price

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

Nothing Droplr does is plain enough to make in a weekend. The 6 things listed below take a company.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 42 of the 52 other screen recording and video tools grade higher. It costs $72 a year.

What you could not

  • Recording the screen with its sound, and somewhere to keep the video.
  • Capture tools hooked into the operating system.
  • Storing and serving files for other people.
  • A real app for macOS and Windows. Something home-made would be a web page.
  • It plugs into other products, Slack, Jira and Confluence among them.
  • Sharing with other people, which means accounts and invitations.

What this rests on. Droplr’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
