2.0
GPA, above 4 of the 14 other webinar and live streaming tools we grade
Ecamm is a live streaming and video production app for the Mac, used to multistream to Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitch and other destinations, or to record shows and podcasts. It switches between cameras and screen shares, builds scenes with titles and graphics, brings in up to ten remote guests who join from a browser, and shows viewer comments on screen. The Pro plan can also feed its output into Zoom as a virtual camera.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Ecamm, taken from its own pages and our grades.
It's a Mac app you install, but building scenes, titles and camera setups takes a while before the first show.

The report card
Best for live shows streamed from a Mac
Ecamm is a live studio for the Mac: switch cameras and screens, add titles and up to ten browser guests, show viewer comments, and stream to Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn and more at once. Standard is $16 a month billed yearly. But it's Mac only, and the Zoom camera, interviews and 4K need Pro.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | B | Standard is $16 a month billed annually ($192 a year, $20 by the month) and streams to 10 destinations, so three platforms is covered. That's level with Restream and Castr and under half of StreamYard's Core. Pro is $32. |
| Free plan and trial | C | No free plan, but a 14-day free trial of Standard and Pro with no credit card. Broadcasts carry an Ecamm watermark until you pay. |
| Features | C | A full studio on Standard: multistreaming to 10 destinations, scenes, overlays, green screen, screen sharing, comments on screen and automatic recording. The gaps: Interview, Zoom output, 4K and isolated recordings need Pro, and there are no sign-up pages or attendee emails. |
| Ease of use | C | No App Store rating on record. It's a Mac app you install, but building scenes, titles and camera setups takes a while before the first show. |
| Platforms and integrations | D | One operating system: the Mac, on macOS 11.2 or newer. It streams to Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitch, works with a Stream Deck, and Pro sends its picture into Zoom. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Ecamm is for
- Great if you stream solo shows or interviews from a Mac
- Handy when you want a camera switcher and graphics without extra hardware

Who it is not for
- Skip it if you or your co-host work on Windows
- Not for you if you need webinar sign-up pages and reminder emails
- Tight if you want 4K or separate tracks per guest, which need Pro at $32 a month
Good to know

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Ecamm you would be making one live stream sent to several platforms at once. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 10 of the 14 other webinar and live streaming tools grade higher. It costs $192 a year.
What you could not
- One live stream sent to several platforms at once.
- Recording the screen with its sound, and somewhere to keep the video.
- A real app for macOS. Something home-made would be a web page.
- It plugs into other products, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram among them.
What this rests on. Ecamm’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
