Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.4

GPA, above 6 of the 27 other AI research tools we grade

Edison Scientific is a commercial spinout of the research lab FutureHouse that builds AI agents for scientific R&D. Its flagship agent, Kosmos, takes a research objective and datasets, reads the literature, writes and runs analysis code, and returns a cited report in which each conclusion can be traced to its code or source. Other agents on the platform handle literature search, data analysis, novelty checks and chemistry, and the company sells on-premises deployments to biopharma organizations.

To get you started, here are 8 things to know about Edison Scientific, taken from its own pages and our grades.

No store rating on record, and this isn't something you just open and use.
From our grade for ease of use

  4. 4

    Kosmos

  5. 5

    Literature

Search and synthesis across more than 175 million papers, trials and patents, returning cited answers or a deep review of conflicting evidence.

  6. 6

Processes experimental data such as flow cytometry and RNA-seq results into statistical analyses and publication-ready figures.

  7. 7

The report card

Best for handing a whole research question to an agent

Edison Scientific sells research agents to biopharma. Its Kosmos agent takes a research goal and your datasets, reads about 1,500 papers, runs its own code and returns a report that traces each conclusion. Nothing is published about price: the one figure on record is $200 a run at launch, with a rise expected. Plans show only after sign-up, the academic free tier's limits are unknown, and Edison's own post put Kosmos at 79.4% accurate.

ToolGPA report cardEdison ScientificGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyDNo price on the public site, and plans only appear once you've signed up. The one figure on record is from the November 2025 launch: a Kosmos run cost 200 credits at $1 a credit, and the company said that rate would probably rise. $200 a go is well past the dear end of this category.
Free plan and trialCThe docs describe a free tier for academics, with paid plans for higher rate limits and extra features. So a researcher at a university gets in, which is something. But the limits couldn't be read, and nothing on record says what anyone outside a university gets for nothing.
FeaturesAKosmos reads the literature, writes and runs its own analysis code, then returns a report where each conclusion traces back to code or a source, which rivals here don't list. Other agents search 175 million papers, trials and patents, turn RNA-seq data into figures, check novelty and plan chemistry routes.
Ease of useCNo store rating on record, and this isn't something you just open and use. The public site points you at a sales demo, plans only show after sign-up, you bring your own datasets, and running tasks from code means the Python client and an API key. Expect a learning curve.
Platforms and integrationsBA web platform that works with Slack and Microsoft Teams, plus a Python client that runs agent tasks from code with an API key, and on-premises deployment for enterprises. No phone or desktop app is listed, which is what keeps it off the top.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.4

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Edison Scientific is for

  • Fits if you're a biology or drug-discovery team with large experimental datasets to analyze
  • Works for organizations that want research agents running in their own environment, on-premises

Who it is not for

  • Pricey if you're one researcher paying your own way, since a Kosmos run was 200 credits at $1 each at launch
  • Skip it if you need a price up front, as none is published and plans show only after sign-up or a sales demo
  • Not for you if you only want a few papers found and summarized, since this is aimed at biopharma R&D
  • Watch out: Edison's own launch post put Kosmos's conclusions at 79.4% accurate, so check each one
  • Tight if you're an academic on the free tier, whose limits couldn't be read

Good to know

Good for

  • Biology and drug-discovery teams analyzing large experimental datasets
  • Academic researchers, for whom the docs describe a free tier
  • Checking whether a research idea has already been tried
  • Organizations that want research agents deployed in their own environment

Worth knowing

  • Prices are not published on the public site; plans appear inside the platform after sign-up.
  • At its November 2025 launch a Kosmos run cost 200 credits at $1 a credit, and the company said that rate would probably rise.
  • In the same launch post, Edison reported that 79.4% of Kosmos's conclusions were accurate.
  • The public site is aimed at biopharma R&D, with demos booked through sales.

Molecules
A chemistry agent that predicts ADMET properties, plans retrosynthesis routes, runs safety assessments and searches databases such as ChEMBL.
API client and enterprise deployment
A Python client runs agent tasks programmatically with an API key. For enterprises, the company offers on-premises deployment and scientists embedded with the customer's team.

6/27

Other AI research tools it is graded above

Edison Scientific's GPA of 2.4 is higher than 6 of the 27 other AI research tools we grade, and level with 8.

It stands best on features (A, above 25 of 27) and worst on value for money (D, above 0).

Each grade against the category

Every bar is all 28 AI research tools we grade, cut by the letter each got. Edison Scientific’s own letter is outlined.

  • CEase of useAbove 0 of 27
  • BPlatforms and integrationsAbove 8 of 27

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Edison Scientific you would be making a library of papers and sources to search. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 13 of the 27 other AI research tools grade higher.

What you could not

  • A library of papers and sources to search.
  • An AI agent, with the models and the safeguards behind it.
  • Citation records for millions of papers.
  • It plugs into other products, Slack and Microsoft Teams among them, and has an API.
  • The depth: we grade its features A, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. Edison Scientific’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
