Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.4

GPA, above 23 of the 51 other AI agents we grade

Eigent is an open-source desktop app in which a single agent or a multi-agent Workforce carries out tasks on your computer using a browser, a terminal and your files. Work is organized into Spaces, Sessions and Tasks, with memory, approvals, automations that run on a schedule or an event, and connectors built on the Model Context Protocol. It runs on Eigent Cloud credits, your own provider API keys or local models, and the Apache-2.0 code can be self-hosted.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Eigent, taken from its own pages and our grades.

You download it and Eigent's cloud models mean you needn't bring a key to start.
From our grade for ease of use
  1. 1

Best for a desktop agent on your own keys or local models

It's desktop only, and the Teams plan, three chat channels and four connectors are still marked coming soon.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at $19.99 a month

As its pricing page puts it: $19.99 per month (Plus); $199.90 billed yearly.

  3. 3

    There is a free plan

1,000 one-time registration credits, 500 more per successful invite, and free use with your own API keys or local models. The open-source app can also be self-hosted at no cost.

  4. 4

    It runs on 3 platforms

    macOS, Windows and Linux.

  5. 5

    Single Agent and Workforce modes

Give a task to one agent, or to a Workforce that splits it among specialized workers running in parallel. You can define your own workers and choose the tools each one gets.

  6. 6

    Spaces, Sessions and Tasks

A Space holds related Sessions and working files and can be tied to a local folder. Space profiles package agents, skills and connectors so the same setup is reused.

  7. 7

    Browser agents

Agents navigate pages, click, type and capture screenshots in a managed or connected Chrome DevTools Protocol browser, and can use imported cookies for signed-in sessions.

  8. 8

    A 2.4 GPA, above 23 of 51

That is against the other AI agents we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

  9. 9

    Keep it

To replace Eigent you would be making an AI agent, with the models and the safeguards behind it. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card

Best for a desktop agent on your own keys or local models

Eigent is an open-source desktop app where one agent, or several working side by side, carries out tasks on your computer with a browser, a terminal and your files. It's free with your own API keys or local models, but its own cloud credits are a one-time 1,000, Plus is $19.99 a month and Pro jumps to $99.99. It's desktop only, and the Teams plan, three chat channels and four connectors are still marked coming soon.

ToolGPA report cardEigentGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyBPlus is $19.99 a month, or $199.90 for the year, for 2,000 task credits plus the Claude and Grok models, which is in the lower part of what this category charges. Bring your own key or a local model and you can skip it entirely. Pro leaps to $99.99.
Free plan and trialBThe app is free and uncapped if you bring your own API key or run a local model through Ollama or LM Studio, and the code is open source. Eigent's own credits are a one-time 1,000 for signing up with no monthly allowance, so without a key of your own you don't get far.
FeaturesCThe Workforce mode has one agent or several splitting a task in parallel, a browser they drive with your cookies, Spaces holding files and profiles, and automations on a schedule or an app event. A fair bit is unbuilt, though: the Teams plan, three chat channels and four connectors are marked coming soon.
Ease of useCYou download it and Eigent's cloud models mean you needn't bring a key to start. Then it's defining workers, choosing each one's tools and wiring connectors, and no rating on record to say how that lands.
Platforms and integrationsCMac, Windows and Linux, and that is the lot: the download page says mobile and tablet aren't supported, and there's no web app. Connectors cover Notion, Slack, Google Calendar, Gmail, LinkedIn and Lark, plus any MCP server.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.4

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Eigent is for

  • Fits if you want a desktop agent that runs on your own API keys or local models
  • Works for teams that want to host it themselves and read the code they run

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if you want it on your phone, tablet or the web, as it's a desktop app only
  • Tight if you want free cloud credits every month, because the 1,000 you get are a one-off
  • Not for you if you need shared team billing today, since the Teams plan is listed as coming soon
  • Watch out: the Telegram, Lark and WhatsApp channels and the X, WhatsApp, Reddit and GitHub connectors are marked coming soon
  • Watch out: the 7-day trial turns into a paid plan unless you cancel, and it caps you at 300 credits a day

Good to know

Good for

  • People who want a desktop agent that runs on their own API keys or local models
  • Long tasks that can be split among several agents working in parallel
  • Teams that want to self-host and inspect the code they run

Worth knowing

  • The Free plan's credits are a one-time 1,000 registration bonus plus invite bonuses; it has no monthly credit allowance.
  • The Teams plan, with a shared library and centralized billing, is listed as Coming Soon.
  • The docs mark the Telegram, Lark and WhatsApp channels and the X, WhatsApp, Reddit and GitHub connectors as Coming soon.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Eigent you would be making an AI agent, with the models and the safeguards behind it. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

It costs $239.88 a year. Eigent is open source, so there is a third way: take its code and run it yourself.

What you could not

  • An AI agent, with the models and the safeguards behind it.
  • Connections to other products, each kept working as those products change.
  • Apps for macOS, Windows and Linux that stay in step with each other.

What this rests on. Eigent’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
