Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.6

GPA, above 28 of the 51 other email apps we grade

eM Client is an email client for Windows and macOS, with free companion apps for Android and iOS. Beyond mail it handles calendars, tasks, contacts, notes and chat, and it connects to Google Workspace, Office 365, Outlook, Exchange and other services. A free license covers personal use with two email accounts. Paid Personal and Business licenses are sold either as a yearly subscription or as a one-time payment for the current major version.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about eM Client, taken from its own pages and our grades.

  1. 1

Best for one desktop program for mail, calendar and tasks

eM Client is a desktop mail program for Windows and Mac, with your calendar, tasks, contacts and chat in the same window.

  2. 2

  8. 8

That is against the other email apps we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

  9. 9

    Keep it

To replace eM Client you would be making an email client: sending, receiving, threading and searching years of mail. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card

Best for one desktop program for mail, calendar and tasks

eM Client is a desktop mail program for Windows and Mac, with your calendar, tasks, contacts and chat in the same window. $49.95 a year covers one person on three devices, or $74.95 once buys the current major version. The Free license stops at 2 email accounts on one device for personal use and leaves out snooze and Send Later, and there's nothing for Linux or the browser.

ToolGPA report cardeM ClientGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyB$49.95 a year for one person on 3 devices is about $4.16 a month, at the low end of this category, with every feature and the AI Add-on in. Or $74.95 once, less than a year of the $8 middle here, though that buys the current major version only and leaves out the AI Add-on.
Free plan and trialCThe Free license is 2 email accounts on one device, personal use only, and thread view, notes, snooze, Send Later and translation are all held back. Those are caps you'll hit, though the first 30 days unlock everything.
FeaturesBMail, calendar, tasks, contacts, notes and chat in one program, PGP and S/MIME on every license, and paid licenses add snooze, Send Later, undo send, Watch for Reply and translation of incoming mail. Nothing in the listing points at a hole in the mail-client job.
Ease of useCNo rating on record. It imports your data from Outlook, Thunderbird and other clients, but it's a dense desktop program with mail, calendar, tasks, contacts and chat panes and accounts to connect first.
Platforms and integrationsBWindows and Mac with free iPhone and Android apps that need no license, so computer and phone are both covered. It talks to Google Workspace, Office 365, Outlook and Exchange, and paid licenses add Teams, Slack and Rocket.Chat. No Linux or web version is listed.
Grade point averageGood, out of 4.02.6

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who eM Client is for

  • Fits if you want mail, calendar, tasks and contacts in one desktop program on Windows or Mac
  • Works for people who'd rather pay $74.95 once for the current major version than subscribe

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if you're on Linux or want your mail in a browser, as neither is listed
  • Tight if you're staying free, because that's 2 email accounts on one device with no snooze, Send Later or thread view
  • Not for you if you want it free at work, since the Free license is for non-commercial use only
  • Watch out: a one-time license covers the current major version only, and the AI Add-on and later versions cost extra
  • Pricey if you license a business, at $59.95 per device a year rather than per person

Good to know

Good for

  • Windows and Mac users who want a full desktop mail client
  • People who would rather pay once for the current version
  • Companies that license email software per device

Worth knowing

  • The Free license is for personal, non-commercial use only, on one device with 2 email accounts.
  • Thread view, notes, snooze, Send Later, undo send and message translation need a paid Personal or Business license.
  • A one-time license covers the current major version only. Later major versions need a paid upgrade or the Lifetime Upgrades option.
  • No Linux or web version is listed. The pricing page shows different prices by country; the figures here are the US ones.

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace eM Client you would be making an email client: sending, receiving, threading and searching years of mail. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

It costs $49.95 a year.

What you could make

  • Calendar, tasks and notes: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • An email client: sending, receiving, threading and searching years of mail.
  • Apps for macOS, Windows, iOS and Android that stay in step with each other.
  • It plugs into other products, Google Workspace, Office 365 and Microsoft Exchange among them.
  • AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. eM Client’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
