Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.4
GPA, above 8 of the 26 other AI app builders we grade
Emergent builds full-stack applications from natural-language prompts, with AI agents handling design, code, testing and deployment. It produces web apps as well as iOS and Android apps built on Expo, and a deployed app can be converted between web and mobile while sharing one backend and login. Every action draws on a monthly credit allowance, including a recurring credit charge for each deployed app.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Emergent, taken from its own pages and our grades.
No rating on record, but there's nothing to install or configure: describe the app in chat and the agents design, code, test and deploy it.
- 1
Best for a web app and a phone app from one project
Emergent hands the job to AI agents: they design, code, test and deploy a full-stack app from your description, and can turn a web app into an iPhone and Android one on the same backend.
- 2
Paid plans start at $17 a month
As its pricing page puts it: $17 per month, billed annually; $20 billed monthly (Standard).
- 3
There is a free plan
10 credits a month with the core building features. No deployments, GitHub integration, custom domains, mobile agent or credit top-ups.
- 4
It runs on Web
Web.
- 5
Agent-built full-stack apps
Describe an app in chat and Emergent's agents write the frontend and backend, set up authentication, then test and debug the result.
- 6
Mobile apps with Expo
A Mobile agent builds iOS and Android apps from one Expo (React Native) codebase with a FastAPI backend and MongoDB. It is available on paid plans only.
- 7
Web and mobile conversion
A deployed web app can be rebuilt as a mobile app, or the reverse, with both versions sharing the same backend, database and login.
- 8
A 2.4 GPA, above 8 of 26
That is against the other AI app builders we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 9
Keep it
To replace Emergent you would be making a tool that builds and hosts other apps. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card
Best for a web app and a phone app from one project
Emergent hands the job to AI agents: they design, code, test and deploy a full-stack app from your description, and can turn a web app into an iPhone and Android one on the same backend. Standard is $17 a month billed annually. But keeping one app online takes 50 credits a month, half of Standard's 100, credits don't roll over, and the free plan can't deploy anything.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | Standard is $17 a month billed annually, $20 monthly, a touch above the $16 that marks the cheapest quarter of builders here. The arithmetic is what hurts: 100 credits a month, and every deployed app takes 50 of them, every month. Credits don't roll over, top-ups are $10 for 50, and Pro is $167. |
| Free plan and trial | C | There's a free plan at 10 credits a month with the core building features. But you can't deploy an app, connect GitHub, use your own domain or build for mobile, and you can't buy more credits either. A look round, not a plan to work on. |
| Features | C | Agents write the front end and back end, set up login, then test and debug their own work, and a deployed web app can be rebuilt as a phone app on the same backend. You own the code. But the listing names the limit: mobile uses a fixed Expo, FastAPI and MongoDB stack, with no Flutter and no native Swift or Kotlin. |
| Ease of use | B | No rating on record, but there's nothing to install or configure: describe the app in chat and the agents design, code, test and deploy it. Two things to know going in — previews die after 30 minutes, and the credit maths wants attention before you deploy anything. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | A web app for building, with nothing on desktop or phone. What it makes runs on the web and as iPhone and Android apps through Expo. It connects to GitHub, Stripe, Supabase, Airtable, Slack, Twilio, Figma and Notion. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Emergent is for
- Fits if you're a solo founder who wants a web app and a matching phone app from one project
- Works for people who want the generated code in their own GitHub repository
Who it is not for
- Tight if you keep apps live, as each deployed one takes 50 of Standard's 100 monthly credits
- Not for you if you're staying free, since the free plan can't deploy, connect GitHub, use a custom domain or buy top-ups
- Skip it if you want Flutter or native Swift or Kotlin, because mobile apps use a fixed Expo, FastAPI and MongoDB stack
- Watch out: monthly credits don't roll over, top-ups are $10 for 50, and previews stop after 30 minutes
- Pricey if you need the 1M context window or custom agents, since Pro is $167 a month billed annually, $200 monthly
Good to know
Good for
- Solo founders who want a web app and a matching mobile app from one project
- Non-developers building internal tools, dashboards or CRMs by prompt
- Builders who want the generated code in their own GitHub repository
Worth knowing
- The Free plan has 10 credits a month and cannot deploy apps, connect GitHub or use custom domains.
- Each deployed app uses 50 credits a month, half of the Standard plan's 100-credit allowance.
- Monthly subscription credits do not roll over; top-up credits, at $10 for 50, never expire.
- Mobile apps use a fixed Expo, FastAPI and MongoDB stack; Flutter and native Swift or Kotlin are not supported.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
To replace Emergent you would be making a tool that builds and hosts other apps. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 12 of the 26 other AI app builders grade higher. It costs $204 a year.
What you could not
- A tool that builds and hosts other apps.
- An AI agent, with the models and the safeguards behind it.
- A builder that other people can use without writing code.
- It plugs into other products, GitHub, Stripe and Supabase among them.
- Sharing with other people, which means accounts and invitations.
What this rests on. Emergent’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
