Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.2

GPA, above 5 of the 65 other focus apps we grade

Engross is an app for iPhone, iPad and Android that combines a Pomodoro-style timer and stopwatch with a to-do list and a day planner. A button labelled 'Hit me when you are distracted' records lapses of attention during a session, and statistics show focus trends by label. The app is free to download, with an Engross Premium in-app purchase.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Engross, taken from its own pages and our grades.

No store rating on record, but nothing to set up: install it and start a timer straight from a task, with one app doing the work of three.
From our grade for ease of use
  1. 1

Best for a timer, to-do list and planner in one phone app

Engross puts a Pomodoro timer, a to-do list and a day planner in one phone app, plus a button you hit each time your mind wanders.

  2. 2

    What it costs

Paid plans start at $5.99 for Engross Premium (US App Store; billing basis not shown).

  3. 3

    There is a free plan

Free to download on iPhone, iPad and Android. Neither store listing says which features need Engross Premium.

  4. 4

    It runs on 2 platforms

    iOS and Android.

  5. 5

    Pomodoro timer and stopwatch

Focus and break lengths are adjustable, with sessions of up to 180 minutes on Android, and a stopwatch covers open-ended work. A session can be started straight from a task or event.

  6. 6

    Distraction button

During a session you tap 'Hit me when you are distracted' each time your attention slips, which the vendor describes as a distraction tracker for building focus.

  7. 7

    To-do list

Tasks support sub-tasks, a progress tracker for long jobs, flexible repeats such as twice a week or alternate days, and reminders up to 24 hours ahead.

  8. 8

    A 2.2 GPA, above 5 of 65

That is against the other focus apps we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

The report card

Best for a timer, to-do list and planner in one phone app

Engross puts a Pomodoro timer, a to-do list and a day planner in one phone app, plus a button you hit each time your mind wanders. Nothing says what the Premium purchase unlocks or whether it's paid once, app blocking shows up on Android only, there are no help pages, and there's no desktop or web version.

ToolGPA report cardEngrossGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyCEngross publishes no prices. The US App Store shows one purchase, Engross Premium at $5.99, without saying whether that's once or every month, and Google Play gives only a $0.99 to $7.99 range. Paid once it would sit low for this category; monthly it would be above the $3.99 middle.
Free plan and trialCFree to download on iPhone, iPad and Android, and the vendor's one-page site calls the app free. Neither store listing says which features need Premium, though, so where free stops is anyone's guess, and there's no trial on record.
FeaturesCA fair amount in one app: timer and stopwatch, the distraction button, tasks with sub-tasks and odd repeats, a calendar planner, labels and charts, white noise. The listing's gaps keep it here: app blocking appears only on the Android listing, and there are no help pages to check any of it against.
Ease of useBNo store rating on record, but nothing to set up: install it and start a timer straight from a task, with one app doing the work of three. There's no help section anywhere if you get stuck.
Platforms and integrationsCPhones and tablets only: iPhone, iPad and Android. No desktop or web version is listed and it connects to nothing else, so a timer at your computer isn't on offer.
Grade point averageFair, out of 4.02.2

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Engross is for

  • Fits if you're a student planning study blocks and counting the hours
  • Works for people who drift mid-session and want to count how often

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if you work at a computer and want your timer there, as it's phones and tablets only
  • Not for you if you like to know what you're buying, since nothing says what Premium adds
  • Tight if you're on iPhone and want apps blocked, as only the Android listing mentions that
  • Watch out: the vendor's site is one page, with no pricing, help or documentation
  • Watch out: the $5.99 Premium price has no billing basis shown, so you can't tell if it's once or monthly

Good to know

Good for

  • Students planning study blocks and tracking study time
  • People who want a timer, to-do list and planner in one phone app
  • Those who lose focus mid-session and want to count the lapses
  • Freelancers tracking work hours by label

Worth knowing

  • Phone and tablet only: iPhone, iPad and Android. No desktop or web version is listed.
  • The vendor does not say what Engross Premium unlocks; the stores show $5.99 on the US App Store and $0.99 to $7.99 per item on Google Play.
  • App blocking appears on the website and the Google Play listing but is not mentioned on the App Store listing.
  • The vendor's website is a single page with no pricing, help or documentation pages.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

The plain part of Engross you could make: Pomodoro timer, tasks, calendar and time tracking. What surrounds it you could not. The 3 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 48 of the 65 other focus apps grade higher.

What you could make

  • Pomodoro timer, tasks, calendar and time tracking: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • Blocking that reaches every browser and app and is hard to switch off.
  • A library of sound you would have to license.
  • A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.

What this rests on. Engross’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
