Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.4
GPA, above 6 of the 15 other field service apps we grade
Fergus is job management software for trade businesses such as electricians, plumbers, builders, HVAC and roofing contractors, made by a company based in Auckland, New Zealand. Job cards carry each job from quote through scheduling, timesheets, materials and purchase orders to the invoice, with an app for the crew. It is billed monthly per full user, and cheaper timesheet-only users cover site staff.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Fergus, taken from its own pages and our grades.
Price books, supplier links and certificates take some setting up before the job cards pay off.
- 1
Best for electricians and plumbers tracking job costs
Fergus carries each job from quote to invoice on one job card, with timesheets, materials, purchase orders and gas and electrical certificates, which suits electricians and plumbers.
- 2
Paid plans start at $31 a month for each person
As its pricing page puts it: $31 per full user / month and up, billed monthly.
- 3
You can try it first
14-day free trial, no credit card required
- 4
It runs on 2 platforms
Web and iOS.
- 5
Quotes and price books
Build quotes and estimates from price books with tiered pricing, and pull in supplier prices and invoices through supplier integrations.
- 6
Job cards
Each job card keeps notes, files, photos, materials and job phases together, from the first enquiry to sign-off with the customer's signature.
- 7
Scheduling and timesheets
A calendar schedules jobs and crew, GPS tracking shows where staff are, and timesheets feed job costs and pay summaries.
- 8
A 2.4 GPA, above 6 of 15
That is against the other field service apps we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 9
Keep it

The report card
Best for electricians and plumbers tracking job costs
Fergus carries each job from quote to invoice on one job card, with timesheets, materials, purchase orders and gas and electrical certificates, which suits electricians and plumbers. Be careful with the price: it's $31 per full user billed monthly, and the 90% offer on its US page shows figures that don't add up.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | Basic is $31 per full user a month, billed monthly only, so three of you pay $93 ($83 if two only need timesheets at $26). That's mid-pack here. The 90% offer shows $5.30, which matches the New Zealand price, not 90% off the US one, so we graded the full price. |
| Free plan and trial | C | A 14-day trial with no card needed. No free plan. |
| Features | B | Quotes from price books, job cards from enquiry to sign-off, crew scheduling with GPS, timesheets that feed job costs, invoices, purchase orders and Fergus Pay, plus gas and electrical certificates. The whole job, though certificates cost extra. |
| Ease of use | C | No App Store rating on record for it. Price books, supplier links and certificates take some setting up before the job cards pay off. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web and iPhone, with Xero, QuickBooks, MYOB, Zapier and Groundplan. There's no Android app in its listing, which matters if your crew carries Android phones. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Fergus is for
- Great if you're an electrician or plumber who wants to see what every job made
- Handy when you need gas or electrical certificates kept with each job
- Good for teams mixing office staff with cheaper timesheet-only site staff
Who it is not for
- Skip it if your crew uses Android phones, as the listing shows an iPhone app only
- Not for you if you'd like a yearly discount, since it's billed monthly only
- Pricey if you want phone support, which needs Professional at $44 a user
Good to know
Good for
- Electrical and plumbing businesses that track materials and costs per job
- Trades that need gas or electrical certificates and safety forms
- Teams mixing office users with cheaper timesheet-only site staff
Worth knowing
- Billed monthly only, per full user; timesheet users start at $26 a month and contractor users cost $2.50 a day.
- Certificates cost $30 for 1–9 staff or $80 for 10+, texts $15 per 100, and card payments 2.95% + $0.30 each.
- Basic comes with email and chat support only; phone support needs Professional.
- The 90% offer runs until December, but the $5.30 and $7.50 it shows match the New Zealand prices, not 90% off the US ones.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
The plain part of Fergus you could make: job scheduling, quotes and estimates, invoicing and time tracking. What surrounds it you could not. The 5 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.
It costs $372 a year.
What you could make
- Job scheduling, quotes and estimates, invoicing and time tracking: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- A real app for iOS. Something home-made would be a web page.
- It is priced for each person, which means accounts and billing for a team.
- It plugs into other products, Xero, QuickBooks and MYOB among them.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. Fergus’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
