Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.8

GPA, above 12 of the 17 other accounting and invoicing tools we grade

Found is a business bank account with bookkeeping built in, for self-employed people and small businesses in the US. Spending on its debit cards is categorized as it happens, and it sets money aside for taxes, sends invoices and pays contractors from the same app. Found is a financial technology company, not a bank: the account is held at Lead Bank, and paid plans add interest, imports from other accounts and more support.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Found, taken from its own pages and our grades.

Spend on the card and the sorting happens as you go, so there's no separate bookkeeping app to feed.
From our grade for ease of use
  1. 1

Best for self-employed people who want banking and books together

Found is a business bank account that does your bookkeeping as you spend: card purchases get sorted, tax money gets set aside, and invoices and contractor payments go out from the same app.

  2. 2

Paid plans start at $35 a month

As its pricing page puts it: $35 per month, billed monthly.

  3. 3

    There is a free plan

Found: business checking with a Mastercard debit card, team cards, 20 sub-accounts, expense categorizing, receipt scanning, P&L, tax estimates, unlimited invoices and 1099 e-filing.

  4. 4

    It runs on 3 platforms

    Web, iOS and Android.

  5. 5

    Business checking and cards

A checking account held at Lead Bank, Member FDIC, with physical and virtual Mastercard debit cards and team cards with spending limits.

  6. 6

    Automatic bookkeeping

Card spending is categorized and flagged as write-offs, receipts attach by photo, and P&L, balance sheet and expense reports are kept current.

  7. 7

    Taxes set aside

Found estimates taxes in real time and moves money into a Taxes Pocket as you are paid. It generates Schedule C and 1120 or 1120-S forms.

  8. 8

    A 2.8 GPA, above 12 of 17

That is against the other accounting and invoicing tools we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

    Keep it

To replace Found you would be making live feeds from your bank, which take an agreement with each bank or a service that has them. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

The report card

Best for self-employed people who want banking and books together

Found is a business bank account that does your bookkeeping as you spend: card purchases get sorted, tax money gets set aside, and invoices and contractor payments go out from the same app. The free plan covers most of that. But the books only see money that runs through Found unless you pay $35 a month, and it's for US businesses only.

ToolGPA report cardFoundGraded Oct 17, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyCFound Plus is $35 a month, above the dearer quarter of accounting tools at $31.10, or $315 a year, about $26 a month. It buys imports from other accounts, rules, tags and in-app tax payments, plus 1.50% interest on up to $20,000.
Free plan and trialBThe free plan is business checking with a debit card, 20 sub-accounts, sorted spending, receipts, a P&L, tax estimates, unlimited invoices and free 1099 e-filing. One person could live on it, as long as all the business money goes through Found.
FeaturesCIt sorts card spending into write-offs, keeps receipts and a P&L and balance sheet, sets tax aside, makes Schedule C forms, sends invoices and pays contractors. The gap is in the listing: it's a bank account, so the books only see other accounts on paid plans.
Ease of useA4.79 from 34,650 App Store ratings, the top band. Spend on the card and the sorting happens as you go, so there's no separate bookkeeping app to feed.
Platforms and integrationsBWeb, iPhone and Android, with money in from Venmo and PayPal and a Mastercard debit card. There's no desktop app, and syncing other bank accounts needs a paid plan.
Grade point averageGood, out of 4.02.8

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who Found is for

  • Great if you're self-employed in the US and happy to run all your business money through one account
  • Handy when tax time scares you, as it sets money aside every time you're paid
  • Good for small businesses that pay contractors and want 1099s filed for free

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if you want to keep banking elsewhere, as importing other accounts needs Plus at $35
  • Not for you if your business is outside the US or you don't have a Social Security number
  • Too light for businesses that need full accounting software, since Found is a bank account first

Good to know

Good for

  • US sole proprietors who want banking and books in one app
  • Freelancers who want taxes set aside automatically as they are paid
  • Small businesses that pay contractors and file 1099s

Worth knowing

  • Found is a bank account, not standalone software: the bookkeeping works on money that runs through it, and other accounts can be imported only on paid plans.
  • Only US-based businesses can open an account, and the owner needs a Social Security number.
  • Some banking costs extra: domestic wires are $15 each ($10 on Pro) and paper checks $1 each (free on Pro).
  • Found Assistant is in beta, and Found says it gives no legal or tax advice.

Part 04 · Standing

Where it stands

Its grades against its category, and whether to keep it or make your own

12/17

Other accounting and invoicing tools it is graded above

Found's GPA of 2.8 is higher than 12 of the 17 other accounting and invoicing tools we grade, and level with 2.

It stands best on ease of use (A, above 13 of 17) and worst on features (C, above 0).

Its paid plans start at $35 a month, against a middle price of $19 for the category: 13 of the 16 others that charge start lower.

On features, ease of use and platforms it scores 3.0 out of 4. 3 tools score higher and cost less.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace Found you would be making live feeds from your bank, which take an agreement with each bank or a service that has them. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

It is one of the better ones too: its GPA of 2.8 is higher than 12 of the 17 other accounting and invoicing tools we grade. It costs $420 a year.

What you could make

  • Expense tracking, invoicing and reports: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • Live feeds from your bank, which take an agreement with each bank or a service that has them.
  • A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
  • AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.

What this rests on. Found’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
