Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.4
GPA, above 10 of the 24 other presentation tools we grade
Genially is a browser-based tool for building interactive content: presentations, infographics, quizzes, games and training materials in which viewers click hotspots, answer questions and follow branching paths. Creations start from a template, an imported PowerPoint, PDF or Google Slides file, or an AI prompt, and can be shared by link or presented in a live session. Higher plans add quiz tracking and packages for learning management systems.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Genially, taken from its own pages and our grades.
Every plan gets all the interactions and animations, Free included.
- 1
Best for clickable lessons, quizzes and games for a class
Genially makes content people click through instead of sitting through: hotspots, questions, branching paths.
- 2
Paid plans start at about $6.72 a month
As its pricing page puts it: €6 per month, billed annually (Pro).
- 3
There is a free plan
2 GB of storage, 500 AI credits a year, 1,000+ free templates, all interactions and animations, file import and live sessions of up to 50 participants. Downloads need a paid plan.
- 4
It runs on Web
Web.
- 5
Interactions and animations
Any element can be made clickable or animated without code, and every plan includes all interactions, effects and animations, plus games, challenges and branching scenarios.
- 6
Genially AI
AI Builder drafts a creation from a prompt, and other tools write text and questions. Use is metered in credits: 500 a year on Free, 2,000 on Pro. Image and voiceover generation start at Master.
- 7
Live sessions
Content can be projected in a live session with questions and polls answered in real time. Sessions hold 50 participants on Free and Pro and 200 on Master and Author.
- 8
A 2.4 GPA, above 10 of 24
That is against the other presentation tools we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.

The report card
Best for clickable lessons, quizzes and games for a class
Genially makes content people click through instead of sitting through: hotspots, questions, branching paths. Every plan gets all the interactions and animations, Free included. But Free has no downloads at all, quizzes with tracking wait for Master at €20 a month and LMS packages for Author at €40, both billed yearly only, and prices show in euros and vary by country.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | Pro is €6 a month billed annually, or €10 monthly, and an archived copy of Genially's US price file puts the paid plans at $120, $300 and $600 a year, so Pro lands about the $9.99 middle here. The parts teachers want cost more: quizzes with tracking need Master at €20 a member, LMS packages Author at €40. |
| Free plan and trial | C | Free gets 2 GB, 1,000-plus templates, every interaction and animation, file import and live sessions for up to 50 people. Then the wall: you can't download anything at all, and AI is 500 credits a year. |
| Features | B | The whole interactive job: clickable hotspots, animations, games, branching scenarios, live sessions with polls, quizzes with per-student tracking, and SCORM, xAPI or LTI publishing to a learning platform. Which plan you need for each is the catch, not whether it's there. |
| Ease of use | C | No App Store rating on record, and the work is building the interactive thing yourself: hotspots, paths, questions. A template, an AI prompt or an imported PowerPoint, PDF or Google Slides file gets you a starting point. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web only, with no phone or desktop app listed. It does connect where teaching happens: Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams, Moodle, Canvas, Blackboard, Schoology and D2L Brightspace. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Genially is for
- Fits if you teach or train and want lessons people click through, not just watch
- Works for eLearning teams publishing courses to an LMS, on the €40 Author plan
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you need a PDF of your work for free, as downloads start at Pro
- Pricey if you want quiz results per student, because tracking needs Master at €20 a month, billed annually
- Not for you if you want prices in dollars up front, since Genially shows euros and prices vary by country
- Tight if you lean on AI on the free plan, as it gets 500 credits a year and image generation starts at Master
- Watch out: Master and Author are billed annually only, and single sign-on and groups need Enterprise
Good to know
Good for
- Teachers and trainers building interactive lessons, quizzes and games
- Presentations that viewers explore by clicking rather than watching slide by slide
- eLearning teams publishing courses to an LMS through SCORM, xAPI or LTI
Worth knowing
- The Free plan has no downloads: PDF, JPG and video start at Pro, HTML at Master, and SCORM or xAPI packages at Author.
- Brand kit, metrics, surveys, quizzes and tests need Master or higher, and Master and Author are billed annually only.
- Prices show in euros by default and vary by country; an archived September 2026 copy of Genially's price file lists US prices of $120, $300 and $600 a year for the paid plans.
- Single sign-on, groups, domain restriction and activity history are limited to the Enterprise plan.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Keep it
The plain part of Genially you could make: templates and surveys. What surrounds it you could not. The 7 things listed below take a company, not a weekend.
It costs $80.68 a year.
What you could make
- Templates and surveys: an app builder makes these well.
What you could not
- A slide editor.
- Several people working in it at the same moment.
- It plugs into other products, Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams and Moodle among them.
- AI features, unless you pay a model provider for each request yourself.
- People on the other end: live sessions. No app builder makes those.
- What a company asks for before it lets staff use something: roles and permissions.
- The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.
What this rests on. Genially’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
