Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.4
GPA, above 7 of the 35 other journaling apps we grade
Gratitude is a self-care app for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Android built around a gratitude journal. It pairs the journal, which has prompts, reminders, photos and streaks, with affirmations you can read or listen to, vision boards and a daily feed of quotes and stories. There is no account: entries are stored on the device, with optional Google Drive backup and iCloud sync between Apple devices. The app is free to download and sells Pro plans as in-app subscriptions.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Gratitude, taken from its own pages and our grades.
There's no account, and entries stay on your phone.
- 1
Best for a daily gratitude habit with prompts
Gratitude is a gratitude journal with affirmations you can listen to, vision boards and a daily feed of quotes.

Free to download, and the vendor describes the app as a freemium service. Its site and store listings do not spell out which features need a Pro plan.
- 4

iOS and Android.
- 5

Daily entries with reminders, hundreds of prompts, photos and a streak counter. The App Store listing also describes recording journal entries in your own voice.

- 7
Vision boards
Boards collect photos, quotes and affirmations for your goals, organized in sections with goal ideas. A board can be turned into a video with music, and you can keep several.

The report card
Best for a daily gratitude habit with prompts
Gratitude is a gratitude journal with affirmations you can listen to, vision boards and a daily feed of quotes. There's no account, and entries stay on your phone. But neither the site nor the store listings say which features need Pro, the App Store shows Pro items with no period, and deleting the app loses anything you didn't back up.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | C | The annual Pro plan is $29.99, which is $2.50 a month and below this category's cheapest quarter, but nobody will tell you what it buys: Gratitude publishes no list of Pro features, and the App Store adds $6.99, $34.99 and $39.99 items with no period on them. |
| Free plan and trial | C | It's free to download, with the journal, affirmations, vision board and Daily Zen all there. What's held back is the thing nobody states, so you find the wall by hitting it. Pro trials are offered in the app with no length given. |
| Features | C | A kit for the gratitude habit: hundreds of prompts, reminders, photos, streaks, entries in your own voice, affirmations you can record, vision boards that become a video, and CSV or PDF export. The gap its own pages own up to: data sits on the device, so deleting the app loses anything you didn't back up. |
| Ease of use | A | 4.9 from about 45,000 App Store ratings. There's no account to make, so you install it and write what you're thankful for, and the prompts cover the days when nothing comes to mind. |
| Platforms and integrations | C | Phones and tablets: iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Android, with no web or Windows version. iCloud sync covers Apple devices only, so iPhone to Android means a Google Drive backup. Apple Health and Siri are on the list too. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Gratitude is for
- Fits if you want a nudge to write down what you're grateful for each day
- Works for people who want entries kept on their own phone, with no account
Who it is not for
- Skip it if you want to know what's free before you start, as Pro's features aren't published
- Not for you if you forget backups, since deleting the app loses anything not backed up or exported
- Skip it if you journal at a computer, as there's no web or Windows version
- Tight if you switch between iPhone and Android, as iCloud sync is Apple only and you'd rely on a Google Drive backup
- Watch out: the App Store lists Pro items at $6.99, $34.99 and $39.99 with no period, and trial lengths aren't stated
Good to know
Good for
- People building a daily gratitude habit with prompts and reminders
- Keeping a journal, affirmations and vision boards in one app
- Users who want entries kept on their own device, with no account
Worth knowing
- The vendor's site shows no prices and no list of Pro features; plan prices appear in the app and on app store listings.
- Data lives on the device by default: deleting the app loses it unless you backed up to Google Drive or exported it.
- iCloud sync covers Apple devices only, so moving between iPhone and Android relies on a Google Drive backup.
- No web or Windows version is listed; the App Store listing says the iPad app also runs on Macs with Apple silicon.

Keep it, or make your own?
Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.
Your call
A journal at its plainest is dated entries of text and photos.
You could make the core of Gratitude for yourself: daily notes. What you would give up is listed below. Whether that is worth the price is your call. At $29.99 a year it costs less than the weekend it would take to replace, which is the argument for keeping it.
What you could make
- Daily notes: an app builder makes this well.
What you could not
- A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
- Hooks into the device itself: an Apple Watch app.
What this rests on. Gratitude’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
