Part 01 · Overview

Welcome

What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first

2.8

GPA, above 25 of the 43 other habit trackers we grade

HabitKit is a habit tracker for iPhone and Android made by Sebastian Röhl, an independent developer in Germany. Each habit is a grid of tiles, one per day, filled in by a yes or no tick, a count or a measured amount, with streaks and weekly or monthly goals on top. It needs no account, works offline and keeps habit data on the phone, so nothing syncs between devices automatically.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about HabitKit, taken from its own pages and our grades.

But nothing syncs between devices, so a new phone means exporting a file, and export, widgets and charts all sit behind Pro.

The report card

Best for seeing a year of each habit as a grid of tiles

HabitKit is a habit tracker for iPhone and Android that shows each habit as a year-long grid of daily tiles. It needs no account and keeps everything on the phone, with four habits free and a one-time Pro from $14.99. But nothing syncs between devices, so a new phone means exporting a file, and export, widgets and charts all sit behind Pro. There's no watch, web or desktop app either.

ToolGPA report cardHabitKitGraded Oct 10, 2026
SubjectGradeComment
Value for moneyAPro can be bought once, and the App Store's Lifetime items run from $14.99 to $29.99, all under a single year of this category's middle subscription at $39.96. The yearly starts at $5.99. The store lists several amounts for each length, and the app shows the one that applies.
Free plan and trialCFour habits free with no time limit, with all three tracking types, notes, categories, quit habits and daily backups. But four is a wall, each habit gets one reminder, and the widget you'd log from shows a padlock until you pay.
FeaturesCIt does the tile-grid job: a year per habit, yes/no, count or measured amounts with units, daily, weekly or monthly goals, Shortcuts and Siri. The gaps are named in the listing: nothing syncs between devices, there's no watch app and no streak freeze or skip day.
Ease of useA4.8 on the App Store from about 2,400 ratings, which is an A on our ladder. There's no account to make and it works offline.
Platforms and integrationsCiPhone and Android, and nothing else: no web, no desktop, and the help centre says plainly there's no Apple Watch app. Siri and Shortcuts are the only things it connects to, and your data never leaves the phone.
Grade point averageGood, out of 4.02.8

An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.

Who HabitKit is for

  • Fits if you track four habits or fewer and only ever use one phone
  • Works for buyers who'd rather pay once, from $14.99, than subscribe

Who it is not for

  • Skip it if you want your habits on two devices, because nothing syncs between them
  • Tight if you're staying free: four active habits, one reminder each, and widgets, charts and export locked
  • Not for you if you want a web, desktop or Apple Watch app, as there's none
  • Watch out: the App Store lists three prices for each Pro length, plus an unlabelled $59.99 item
  • Skip it if you want a streak freeze for sick days, as there isn't one

Good to know

Good for

  • People who want to see a year of each habit at a glance
  • Users who want no account and their habit data kept on the phone
  • Buyers who would rather pay once than subscribe
  • Tracking up to four habits for free with no time limit

Worth knowing

  • The free version stops at four active habits; widgets, charts, extra reminders, and export and import need Pro.
  • Nothing syncs between devices: moving to a new phone means exporting a file and importing it, and export and import are Pro features.
  • The US App Store lists several amounts for each Pro period, such as $0.99, $1.99 and $4.99 for one month; the app shows the price that applies.
  • Listed for iPhone and Android only. The help center says there is no Apple Watch app, and no web or desktop version is listed.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Your call

A habit tracker at its plainest is a list of habits, a tick for each day and a count of the streak.

You could make the core of HabitKit for yourself: habit tracking and goals. What you would give up is listed below. Whether that is worth the price is your call. At $11.88 a year it costs less than the weekend it would take to replace, which is the argument for keeping it.

What you could make

  • Habit tracking and goals: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • A real app for iOS and Android. Something home-made would be a web page.
  • Hooks into the device itself: widgets, Siri and Shortcuts.

What this rests on. HabitKit’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
