PracticeQ is the practice management system from IntakeQ, which renamed it in 2021 to set it apart from its IntakeQ Forms product. It is built around customizable, branded intake forms and adds online booking, reminders, a client portal, SOAP charting, telehealth, invoicing, and insurance claims through clearinghouses. Plans are priced by monthly appointments per practitioner.

To get you started, here are 9 things to know about PracticeQ, taken from its own pages and our grades.

The forms are the heart of it and you build them, along with booking pages, note templates and a clearinghouse link.

PracticeQ is built around branded intake forms, with booking, reminders, SOAP notes, telehealth and claims through clearinghouses. Starter costs $59.90 a month yet allows only 25 appointments and 25 form submissions per practitioner, so most practices need Pro at $84.90, and e-prescribing and patient messaging cost extra.

Free plan and trialCA 2-week trial with no card, and no free plan. Half off the first 2 months exists, but you have to claim it on a call with sales.

Who PracticeQ is for

  • Fits if your biggest chore is collecting intake forms and consents before the first visit
  • Works for mixed clinics such as behavioral health, chiropractic and med spas that share one system

Who it is not for

  • Tight if you're on Starter: 25 appointments, 25 form submissions and 50 texts per practitioner a month
  • Pricey if you need e-prescribing at $65 a month or the Engage messaging add-on from $99.90 a month
  • Watch out: card rates for PracticeQ Payments aren't published, faxing is 10¢ a page, and Zapier isn't under the HIPAA agreement
  • Not for you if you only want forms: IntakeQ Forms is a separate product at $54.90 a month plus $20 a practitioner
  • Skip it if you want a phone app, since none is on record and it runs in the browser

Good to know

  • PracticeQ Payments rates are not published, and Zapier is not covered by the HIPAA business associate agreement.
  • A forms-only product, IntakeQ Forms, is sold separately at $54.90 a month plus $20 per extra practitioner.

Keep it, or make your own?

Whether this is something you could build for yourself with an AI app builder, and what you would give up.

Keep it

To replace PracticeQ you would be making insurance claims sent to payers through a clearinghouse. That is not a weekend's work, with an AI app builder or without one.

That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 5 of the 12 other therapy and clinic software grade higher. It costs $718.80 a year.

What you could make

  • Forms, appointment booking and clinical notes: an app builder makes these well.

What you could not

  • Insurance claims sent to payers through a clearinghouse.
  • Video sessions that meet health privacy rules.
  • It plugs into other products, Heidi, Office Ally and Trizetto among them, and has an API.
  • Hooks into the device itself: widgets.
  • The depth: we grade its features B, which means it covers the whole job.

What this rests on. PracticeQ’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
