Part 01 · Overview
Welcome
What it is, who it suits, its grades and the ten things to know first
2.2
GPA, above 0 of the 17 other file storage and sync services we grade
Internxt Drive is a zero-knowledge encrypted cloud storage service from a company based in Valencia, Spain. Files are encrypted on the device before upload, the code is published on GitHub, and the platform has been independently audited. Paid plans come in 1 TB, 2 TB and 5 TB sizes, sold as annual subscriptions or one-time lifetime purchases, and bundle a VPN and antivirus.
To get you started, here are 9 things to know about Internxt, taken from its own pages and our grades.
- 1
Best for private cloud storage you can pay for once
Internxt encrypts your files before they leave your device, with open-source code and an outside audit behind the claim, and desktop apps for Linux, Windows and Mac.
- 2
Paid plans start at $11.99 a month
As its pricing page puts it: $11.99 per month, billed annually (list price).
- 3
There is a free plan
1 GB of encrypted cloud storage for life, usable across Internxt's services.
- 4
It runs on 6 platforms
Web, Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android.
- 5
Zero-knowledge encryption
Files are end-to-end encrypted before leaving the device and split into fragments, so a server holds only encrypted shards. Plans also list post-quantum encryption.
- 6
Open source and audited
Internxt publishes its code on GitHub and states that the platform was independently audited by the penetration testing company Securitum.
- 7
Backup and sharing
Paid plans back up a computer and share files with password protection. Premium and Ultimate add invitations to collaborate and file versioning.
- 8
A 2.2 GPA, above 0 of 17
That is against the other file storage and sync services we grade, on value, the free plan, features, ease of use and platforms.
- 9

The report card
Best for private cloud storage you can pay for once
Internxt encrypts your files before they leave your device, with open-source code and an outside audit behind the claim, and desktop apps for Linux, Windows and Mac. The free plan is only 1 GB, list prices start at $11.99 a month for 1 TB, what you pay moves with whatever discount is running, and versioning waits for Premium.
| Subject | Grade | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Value for money | D | The list price is $11.99 a month for 1 TB, past the $9.99 where this category's dearest tenth starts and more than twice its $5 middle. Lifetime lists at $1,999. The site advertised 80% off when we checked, so almost nobody pays list, but a price that only makes sense on permanent discount is not a good price. |
| Free plan and trial | C | Free for life, and 1 GB of it, when MEGA hands out 20 GB and Google 15 GB. That's enough for a look round and a few documents, not enough to keep anything. No trial of the paid plans is listed either. |
| Features | C | The storage basics, with files encrypted and split into fragments on your device, code on GitHub, an audit by Securitum, plus backup, password-protected links, a VPN and antivirus. The listing's own ladder is the catch: file versioning starts at Premium, and WebDAV and NAS at Ultimate. |
| Ease of use | B | No store rating on record, but nothing to set up: install the desktop or phone app, sign in, and your files are there, with no server to host and no keys to manage yourself. |
| Platforms and integrations | B | Web, Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone and Android, so every machine in the house is covered. What's thin is the other end: Rclone is the only integration listed, there's no API on record, and the CLI and WebDAV are Ultimate only. |
An A is worth 4 points, a B 3, a C 2, a D 1 and an F nothing. The GPA is the average of the five.
Who Internxt is for
- Fits if you want storage the provider can't read, with open-source code anyone can inspect
- Works for people who'd rather pay once, since every paid plan also comes as a lifetime purchase
Who it is not for
- Tight if you're staying free, because 1 GB is all you get
- Pricey if you ever pay list, at $11.99 a month for 1 TB, and the charge moves with whatever promotion is on
- Not for you if you need file versioning on the cheapest plan, since that starts at Premium
- Skip it if you want Photos, WebDAV, NAS or the CLI without paying for Ultimate at $31.99 list
- Watch out: files max out at 10 GB on Essential, and Rclone is the only integration listed
Good to know
Good for
- People who want open source, zero-knowledge storage
- Buyers who prefer a one-time lifetime payment
- Linux users: desktop apps cover Linux, Windows and macOS
Worth knowing
- The free plan is limited to 1 GB.
- The prices here are list prices. Internxt's site advertised 80% off when checked, so the amount charged is usually lower and changes with the promotion.
- File versioning and collaboration invites start at Premium; Photos, WebDAV and NAS support are limited to Ultimate.
- Maximum file size is 10 GB on Essential, 50 GB on Premium and 100 GB on Ultimate.

Internxt's GPA of 2.2 is higher than 0 of the 17 other file storage and sync services we grade, and level with 1.
It stands best on ease of use (B, above 4 of 17) and worst on value for money (D, above 0).

Keep it
Nothing Internxt does is plain enough to make in a weekend. The 4 things listed below take a company.
That makes this kind of software worth paying for, not this one in particular: 16 of the 17 other file storage and sync services grade higher. It costs $143.88 a year. Internxt is open source, so there is a third way: take its code and run it yourself.
What you could not
- Storing and serving files for other people.
- Apps for macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android that stay in step with each other.
- End-to-end encryption done properly.
- Sharing with other people, which means accounts and invitations.
What this rests on. Internxt’s listing: what it does, where it runs, what it plugs into and what it costs. It is a judgement about the kind of software this is. We have not built a replacement for it, and making your own means looking after it too. How we decide, and every tool’s verdict.
